Can enyone tell me what this odd mark under chin is on this 1914-p buffalo nickel?
Do you think this was done at the mint or is it man made?

    Landman66061 - welcome to the forum. It's hard to tell for certain from the small image but my guess is that you are seeing die clashing and not a post-strike defect.

    Look on the rev. There may be a similar mark between buffalo's back and E Pluribus unum. Welcome.

    Come to think of it. If you look at my icon to the left you can figure out where the mark came from. The pic is an Xray of an buffalo nick. The back of the buffalo overlaps the chin. Commonly you'll see an outline of the chin on the buffalo's back also.

    Mike, don't spend that money just yet - die clashing doesn't make the coin worth extra and it's highly unlikely that it's worth "thousands", if even hundreds.image

    I am just happy its not man made.
    I will just set this one aside for my kids should they
    ever pick up an intrest in the great hobby of coin collecting
    like there dad.
