Hi,
I just joined the forum after becoming interested in coins again. I collected coins as a kid and still have my old Whitman folders, but I haven't really collected for over 25 years except for setting aside unusual looking coins I found in circulation until very recently. Now, me and my wife have started putting together a set of circulated mercury dimes and have been starting to build up a collection of different types of old (relatively) coins, both raw and slabbed. I think I have the basics figured out about grading and certified and all that, but I have a bunch of questions about things that I am not sure of. Things like, are my old Whitman folders going to corrode the coins in them and other basic things. Hopefully I won't be too bothersome with these. I see a lot of knowledgable threads here and have learned a lot just by lurking and reading.

Welcome MrSpud (Idaho?).
First of all, turn on your private mail so we can contact you if need be. Turning on your profile would also be nice.
Regarding your Whitman folders, I think they are pretty safe. Though I stick with slabs today, I have a mint state, full red Lincoln collection that I've had in a Dansco album for 20 years and all of the coins are still blazing red. I'd be more worried about where you store the album as opposed to the album itself.

that is often on the backing can come into contact with th coins nd cause problems. The newer
folders are better but still suspect for decades long storage. Whatever storage you use, it is wise
to check on the coins once in a while.
Albums are OK for unc coins except, again, over the very long term there can be problems. Be careful
not to move the slides against the coins and they're OK for shorter terms.
Psssssssssstttttttttt Can you hear the Darkside calling?

Ask these folks questions before you spend a lot of money on coins.
Your billfold will thank you for it.
