Toned Mercs Questions

In 1994, I assembled a nice uncirculated (most w/FSB) set of Mercury Dimes complete (1935 - 1945). I stored them in a Dansco album and pulled them out last night for the first time in 10 years.

Almost all the coins have developed "nice/pretty" light toning.

My questions:

If I leave the coins in the album, will they continue to tone to a point where they are unattractive?
Intercept brand coin albums - do they provide better protection?
Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

  • Not long ago, I helped a friend break apart a collection and sell it. Lots of the coins had developed toning. There weren't any Dansco albums, but quite a few Whitmans, and a lot of old 2-by-2s. My point: this collection had been stored in an unheated storage locker for a long time, over a decade I think. To me, some of the resultant toning was not attractive at all. A few were nice, but the majority was not. I think it has less to do with the particular album in which you store it than the environment in which the album is kept.
Life got you down? Listen to John Coltrane.
