Should this card have sold for 5X SMR?

This is ridiculous! This card sold for 5X SMR. I am 75% complete on my set, and all of the sudden everyone wants to buy these cards.
Carlos & Jack, what the heck is going on? Waxpacks are also out of control, 72 FB packs were selling for 40-50 a year ago, now they are doing a 100 bucks regulary. Stop the insanity!

  • Sure. People wanted to pay it so hell yeah. But I understand your point and say....what are they thinking?

The simple truth is I pay multiple times SMR frequently.

So do I, unfortunately. But, it helps to chase a set that everyone else has already done, or at least one that the people with more money than brains are not going after.

  • I WAS TRACKING that card also rob but forgot about it when it went over 100.another thing you have to consider not just 72 guys on that card.I was watching it for kilmer a skin. There is lot of cowboys collecters out there also.I saw dlemmon was on it he goes for qb cards,so yes crazy price but some cards draw interest from not just set guys.those hof rookie set guys can tell you that they battle differant guys all the time set collectors, player collectors, position collectors like qbs, rookie card and not to mention the hof guys. That set must be murder finding a deal on.
  • Rob,

    It's not "insanity."

It is, in fact, the marketplace at a point in time.

  • Rob,

It is insanity. There are enough dealers out there that have that card in really good shape that I am going trolling for that ungraded! It isn't even a low pop card according to the population report there are 6 graded at a 9, Chese and Rice, there are some cards in that set the there aren't 6 graded at an 8! I just wish that some of the people who were willing to pay that much for cards would look at my ebay auctions. I always seem to hit the dry times. And, I can also relate to your comment about suddenly everyone wants 72 football over 200 people looked at this card! I have a feeling we are going to pay through the nose to finish our sets. image

I am just happy I already have that card in a PSA 9.

I am down to 68 cards that I need in a PSA 9 (or 10) for my set. Some of these battles are well out of my league. Last month a PSA 9 Griese card went for about $250.00. Had to let that one go.

  • Art - those 68s have been going low these days, and now 72s have perked up.
Skycap echoed my thoughts - It's all market timing.
