Can't blame PCGS for all of this delay

Lately my submissions to PCGS have taken 8 to 10 days to be entered as received. I thought this rather unreasonable and blamed PCGS for the delay. I had never bothered to track my shipments via the USPS' tracking system but decided to track my latest one.

I live in the DFW area about 1,400 miles from Newport Beach, California.

USPS Registered package was sent 2/17/2004 and delivered 2/25/2004. Eight days to get there!!!! If it takes another eight days to be delivered that's another half month to add on to grading times. This is not good.

Thank God I do not live in Maine --- would likely need to add a month.

I've always found PCGS to be very diligent in entering my orders when they are received.

    edited for better grammer.

Priority Mail USPS has only taken 2 to 3 days from MO so far.

PCGS does play games with recieved dates. I sent three orders in the same box. Two were listed as received on 12/29/03. The third order was listed as received on 1/12/04. Do they really think the customers don't notice.

PCGS does not "play games with recieved dates." We may make mistakes...and/or you may have made a mistake on one of your invoices that caused an entry delay...and we may have not entered an order that you made a submission error on in a prompt manner...and/or we may have just simply screwed up. But we do not play games with received dates.

As a New Yorker, the total time from sending to PCGS receipt has averaged 7-10 days, depending on weekends, etc. One thing to keep in mind is that Registered Mail (the only way you should send them) has to be signed for at each transit point in the USPS system. It is always slower than Priority Mail.

Bearcave: I would strongly suggest not sending via Priority. I did it when first submitting to PCGS and my shipment was stolen in Newport Beach. Even though it was insured, it was hell trying to get reimbursed from the USPS. See archived threads on this. The only way I will send them now is via Registered, as it provides a lot more security.

If you sent your coins USPS Registered Mail, eight days is not at all unreasonable. Registered mail is logged in and signed for at every change point in the system by all employees that handle it, and kept under lock and key in special sections of the POs and transfer points that it moves through. I have had Reisterd Mail take up to 15 days, with 5-10 days being normal. Eight day Registered Mail is not at all unreasonable - it is an entirely different system than First Class/Priority Mail.

The USPS will tell you if you ask that Registered Mail can take several weeks, although such extreme delays are unusual - the USPS makes no claims about fast delivery for Registered Mail - they make claims about safe delivery, and it is safe.

Edited to add: I believe the USPS's guarantees concerning the safety of Registered Mail are much more valid that PCGS's guarantees for turn around times. image
