These pics are of a strong box I purchased a couple of years ago on ebay. It is believed the box was used by the Carson City Mint in the late 1870's.

    My guess is that it will get body bagged at PCGS. But you might send it to ANACS for a net grade. My guess, Fine details, corroded, net Good.

    But ANACS could bag it too for mint mark added

    Bryan, with what was stated earlier about it being possibly a pop-top, and if original as I'm sure it is, this could make you quite a "tidy" profit if you decided to sell it. Or you could donate to the CC Museum and take one hell of a tax deduction for a charitable contribution!!! image

    No matter how it goes, I think this is probably one of the most exciting times you have ever had and I sincerely hope it is corroborated as a original. Too image for words!

    It does indeed appear to be an original item.....we're now about 100% sure of that.

    And it might just be unique as a CC piece. These boxes surface from time to time from old assay offices around the country, but those persons 'in the know' have never seen one stamped for the Carson Mint.

    For me, this sort of item is what makes numismatics so much fun. And since I've not missed any meals lately, I'll not be selling it.image

    I read all of your posts as well as that of others from the last thread so I realize it is quite possibly unique, being a CC box. I very much hope you will not let this topic disappear. Please keep us all up-dated as to ANY developments as they transpire. I really want to follow along with you on this, as I think many of us do.

    You use the word "fun"---I think EXTREMELY EXCITING is more like it, eh!?!?!?!? Come-on--admit to a few goose-bumps!

    It is so cool that you have something so unique!!! For safe keeping, you could put it "On Loan" to the CC Museum. They could even put a little tag on it saying that it's "On loan from _____."
