1999s Silver Proof sets

Would like to know what you people think about the 99 silver proof sets.I have been told by a few coin dealers I should sell them now while the price is at $200.00 + per 9 coin set. I think I should hang on to them at least untill after the series is complete in 2008.Opinions please.

    Do you need the money?
Does it cost you anything to keep 'em?

If you answered "no" to both, then I'd keep 'em and see what happens.
    When in doubt, don't.

I dunno about anyone else, but I'm grabbing up all that I can get my hands on. Within reason, of course. It's getting real hard to find them for less than $200+

Keep them. Think about how many new collectors in 2008 will want a full set of state quarters proofs. I would also advise keeping them in the original case and not cracking/slabbing for better LT investment.

I agree.....keep them. Of course with ebay, you can track the real value of them and if you begin to see them decline, you can sell if you want to. I am sure they will dip in price a bit at some point, but as long as the SQ program is going, I think they'll steadily rise. I have heard some people say they will be selling at 500 within a few years. Just MHO.

Uh? Did those dealers perchance suggest that you sell your 1999 proof sets to them?

I recently bought mine off eBay because I didn't think to include it with my subsciptions with the mint. Have had to play catch-up for 1999, 2000, and 2001 for the PR, silver PR and MS sets, but now have all and will keep them as well as all coming out for the next ten+ years.

They will NOT get any cheaper IMO, as there will be more buyers then sellers for the 1999 sets. Values will hold or escalate with time.

I see dealers offering 190.00 per set now.....thats a pretty good indication I think.

Sorry, CoinGuy, but I could only find the 1999 Silver Proof sets going for over $200+ with hours/days left for bidding. Couldn't find any dealer selling them for under $200. Sure you weren't looking at just the PR sets?

    Spy88, I think you misunderstood Coinguy42.
I believe he is saying that dealers are offering to buy from people at $190.00.
On ebay, they are selling for $200+ but you know dealers don't offer what others do image

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

  • Sell half of what you got. If they go down you'll be glad you did. If they go up you still have half.

i just wanna know if what i have is what anyone else has in the way of the reverse on the roosie.

my `99 S roosie has what looks like a golden colored olive leaf on the left side of the coin.

no one else has chimed in on the same thing about their `99 S proof set.

am i the only one with this what seems to me so far as a very scarce,if not downright rare,
gold colored olive leaf on the roosie reverse?

IF it is the only one or one of a small handful my set would sell for..........well, who knows.....

Being that it has the lowest silver state quarter mintage it will probably hold a premium over the other sets. With 5% fewer made that the 2001 it does seem a bit high. But what premium should lowest mintage carry? I dunno. Staying with the thought that its the SQ's that hold most of the value I do think the 1999 clad set is way outta wack with the others.

And lets not forget that you do get a proof Sac with the 2000 and later.

So maybe a good time to sell the 1999 clad set.

  • I didn't have $32.95 to get 'em from the mint, so a couple years later I overpaid at $65 each. Couldn't believe $120 much lesss $240 today.

$500? Honestly? For a proof set? I don't think so.
