submitting cameo coins

Would you submit a cameo crossover candidate raw or still in the other holder? I'm afraid some of the cameo effect will rub off in the plastic things you send them to pcgs in.

Depends on the coin and what other plastic it is in. What is it????
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

  • Say a cameo cent in a icg holder. There would be no movement of the coin in the holder during shipping. But the plastic things pcgs provides to send raw coins to them would put pressure on the high points and could leave a mark if the coin slid in that holder. Maybe I am just too paranoid.

If it's a modern prepare to take a 1 to 2 point hit. If you really want PCGS to grade it, write "Cross at any grade" on the submission form, then send it in the holder.

  • If you'll take a 1-2 point hit this way, then how would you send it? I certainly wouldn't send a coin like this if it was going to damage or alter it in any way, or if it would take a hit on the grade, I'd rather keep it raw...

  • I already did with a 1960 proof cent and it went from 68cam. to 67cam. but the value increased at least 3X . I was more just curious if anyone else felt cameo coins were more suseptable to damage in flips thru the mail compared to non cameo.

No, it won't rub off - unless it's a fake frosted one.

  • ha ha ha not rub off like a cheap paint job but rather a slight rub causing the high spot to almost be polished

Let me add something here.... my submission now always go into a box....

I submitted some Frankies that were packaged properly in a big envolope.....

One of them came back in a ms64 holder, I had this coin as a six, the coin had what looked like freshly made hits on it....

Now, it could be that I missed the marks in the 1st place...

It could be that it happened during shipping with the PO....

Could it have happened at PCGs..... could be, who knows........ I don't want to think that our coins could get damaged there, but humans are involved and it could happen at any grading company...... I am not implying a intentional thing here, but a accident could occur, who knows........

AS a result of this happening to me, I now always use a box.....
