Update on 55 DDO -001

JRoccoJRocco Posts: 14,277 ✭✭✭✭✭
Finally got around to sending this 55DDO to ANACS to get it net graded to see what they thought. They detailed it as corroded-cleaned Net AU-50. A little less than I thought it would net grade. Oh Well it is still a beautiful coin. I hope this question is OK in this forum. Does anyone have an idea as to how to value a coin net graded in an ANACS slab like this as compared to a clean AU-50? I have had this coin for a long time so it was cleaned decades ago if that helps. Thanks in advance.

The ANACS net grade is the value they expect the coin would sell for. Which is why I like NCS's approach which lets the buyer net grade since each person's purchase criteria is different.

I think you have a great example of the 1955 doubled die which I'm sure you are happy to own. Having it in an ANACS slab will help preserve it better for many years. The doubling is so obvious and interesting as compared to some DD's in this series which need a 10X+ glass to see. Don't worry about price if you plan keeping it. Over time this error coin has always gone up in value and yours will too. If the scan is accurate as to color (mostly red) I would say it is worth $1,000 today to someone who wants a nice example. JMHO and good luck with your coin. Steveimage

    AMEN! Anacs' Net grading blows.

I have an NCS AU listed on ebay right now that used to be in an ANACS MS NET AU holder! I'm not sure what it will go for.

As far as yours I cannot get a feel for the true color with your bright picture. I would expect it to sell for around 7-800.00 if it was harshly cleaned and a bright coin. If it's more mellow in color or even brown then I'd say more.

The color is actually very nice on the coin. It is not blast red yet it looks like a "new" coin except for the area of dark toning on the obverse and a small area on the reverse.
