Prooflike Morgan question......

I just got grades on 3 Monster toned Morgans and my 1885o came back MS63PL. Does the PL designation add much if any premium on a coin like this. BTW the obverse is an awesome orange tab toned beauty with other rainbow colors. The reverse looks like a frosted cameo proof with mirrored fields. No plans on selling her either. Is PL a tough designation to get from PCGS? I don't do Morgans except the knockout toners so I appreciate expert opinions.

Thanks,

P.S.: When I get her back I'll post pics!

Depends on the year/mint of issue, some are harder to find in PL/DMPL, also the grade, some PL/DMPL are harder to find in higer grades. An 85-0 63PL has probably a 10% premium, but with toning, it should be more, because toned PL/DMPL coins are even harder to find or get qualified as PL/DMPL since often toning affects the mirrors.

There is no set premium as there are too many variables.

The difference in price between a 63 & 63PL is $4 according to PCGS price guide for PCGS holdered coins. Low grade DMPL & PL 85-Os are plentiful.
So any prem will be for the toning.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

More precisely, the premium over a white MS63 piece of this common date will be related to the level of eye appeal imparted by the combination of toning and PL surfaces. In cases of attractive colors, PL or even semi-Pl surfaces significantly enhace the attractiveness of a toned coin compared to one with the same colors and more typical surfaces. As such, the price premium can be significant as well, and increases in absolute magnitude can be quite large as the grade rises to and above MS65.
