A couple of toned coins - or at least my pathetic attempts to image them!

Am still trying to master capturing tone with my scanner (Yes, I know digital camera will work better). Here are a couple of attempts.

Here is a circulated Merc I came across in the bargain bin recently. There is significantly more green on the acutal coin than the scanner picked up.

And here is a 53D Lincoln that I spied in one of those grab bags of Wheat Cents that dealers always sell. This one had some neat tone on it, so it made for a worthwhile purchase. It is actually a very cool coin in person. Not high grade, but full red obverse with this cool blue and purple reverse.

I haven't seen a lot of toned lincolns, so am not sure if this coloration is completely natural or not.

Here is one more. I have tried about 50 diferent scans to capture the toning on this proof Jefferson and this is the best I can do. The colors are quite a bit more interesting in person. This Jefferson is still housed in the US Mint Proof set I found it in, which is a big part of the reason I am having trouble capturing the tone. he obverse has just a hint of blue, purple, and orange growing up from the bottom middle of the coin. The reverse has two distinct sections of toning. Near the top is a large area of blue with a purple rim, and a second similar pattern of toning at the bottom of the reverse. It is also a decent cameo, which adds to the effect. I have had this set for a couple of years, and the color is definitely increasing on this one. While the rest of the coins in the set are nice DCAMs, none exhibit any toning.
