For those of you that know about this saga it's pretty funny, huh? After submitting these cards three seperate times (after gaining the approval of customer service each time) these cards still cannot be holdered. This last time they even called me and told me how they were gonna encapsulate them using the T3 holder and a 5" x 7" top loader. Next thing I know I get these results...no phone call...nothing. The sad part about this for me is that for some hockey Hall of Famers this is the only card they have from their playing days.

It's a shame too because these cards would look awesome encapsulated. I also have another submission with some of these at PSA. I guess they're doomed as well. What can you do?

Thats just flat out BS now wtf so how many times have you had them in cali and how long has this fiasco went on.

If you have any laying around could you please post a scan I'd love to see them.

  • Matt,

They're pretty sharp looking cards. Here they are from an earlier thread. They're the cards of Bill Cowley, Bob Bauer and the like. The other cards towards the top of the thread are Beehives from 1934-45.

I'd say it's been going on for about 2-3 months now with three seperate submission that I had pre-approved. I know they're trying to figure something out, but I guess I get a little frustrated by the lack of communication sometimes. I'll never be able to finish the Hockey HOF set without these cards. I hope they figure something out someday.

  • WOW!!! way cool man. Those are sharp as the beehives as well. How rare are the 39's they cost an arm and a leg or just totally overlooked.

As for the service that blows totally to figure that your cards have been shipped three times and still not correct is just not acceptable even with preapproval. How ironic is it that they dump a bunch of people in the service department then run a 5.00 special. Yee ha makes sense in the books but if they cant even get the cards logged in within a week you can probably walk through the front door and yell and hear your echo (anybodyhome?)

  • The cards are pretty cheap. Mostly because they are tough to find in high grade.

I'm expecting a call back from somebody tonight who's digging up all the info on this issue they can. Maybe they'll have a decent explanation?

  • Tom, are you looking for info about Beehives or from PSA about getting the OPC's graded?

if you need Beehive info, check out www.beehivehockey.com. the most comprehensive beehive site out there.

also, if you need any info on hall of famers and their cards, check out www.hockeydb.com (shows comprehensive lists of every card out, even for obscure players)
  • I really sympathies with you, I've also been given the run around with an autograph card. I sent a card off to PSA/DNA last October for grading and came back not in holder, because PSA doesn't grade the issue anymore which I was told, and I can find a dozen of them on ebay signed and slabbed by PSA. But not of the player I needed. They told they stopped slabbing that issue as of September 2003. I put it away and didn't do much about it until the beginning of the year when I went to PSA to drop off a 104 card lot for the set registry special. I brought the card with me to PSA and let them know if they could just slab it for me with the word Authentic, since it has already been through PSA/DNA system. Just to add to my set registry. I was told they don't grade the issue anymore, but if I leave it with them they will see what they can do. What have I got to lose, I left the card with them on 1/5/04 it didn't get registered in the database until 1/12/04 and after about 3 weeks I'd call asking about the card, they would tell me that it card is still being reviewed. around 2/11/04 I had to go and pick up my cards I dropped off, and had questioned about the card I left. They said that it was reshipped back to PSA/DNA on 1/24 to see if the signature is authentic and when they recieve it back from them as being authentic, they will have it in a holder w/ Authentic on the card so I can register it into my set. after waiting for such along time just for only 1 card. Yesterday in the mail I recieved the card directly from PSA/DNA as being authentic, this time I have a certificate, and theres a sticker on the card. But it's not in a holder and I can't register it into my set. Checking the Order status, it still says Your shipment was received on 01/12/2004. Further processing is pending. Had the card not come to me and got lost in the mail. I'd probley be waiting forever! The sad part of it, they shipped it to me an a plain yellow envelope with a few stamps on it, not even insured. (I wonder if they ship and return cards back to PSA this way with all their submissions)

Dude. You must've puked all over the place or something when you opened the e-mail link and saw that. I was vicariously excited just to open this thread. I can't even imagine how livid I would've been upon seeing all those "Not Holdered, No Holder Available" - especially given the history of this situation.

Not that it compares to your saga, Tom, but I'm a tiny bit peeved about the non-response I've gotten from customer service about a Pop Repot issue. PSA has separate listings for '23-24 V145-1 and '23-24 Wm. Patterson, even though they're the same set. I e-mailed asking them if they could consolidate the two listings, like they previously did for the '10-11 C56/Imperial Tobacco set.

I e-mailed them once and heard nothing, then e-mailed BJ, who told me to e-mail customer service or Peter Ma if the low-level reps couldn't help. I e-mailed the generic info@psacard.com address again with my request but still haven't heard anything. (And I gather that Peter is gone. Correct?)Perhaps my messages disappeared into the ether of cyberspace, or maybe PSA has just outsourced customer service to Bangladesh or something, but it still kinda stinks.

    Steve,

I had the same issue with another set that needed to be consolidated. I was told they cannot consolidate them unless they re-label all the cards from the set that is being "moved". As each card gets relabeled they move it to the other POP report set.

So you'll need to track down every card with a William Patterson label and have it re-labeled to V145-1 or 2. I have a PSA 3 Cleghorn lablled William Patterson if that helps image

  • Tom,

    One question:

Are they refunding your fees or sending you vouchers for free submissions? At $35 a pop, and no other cards to submit that you know PSA will grade and encapsulate, those vouchers would be worthless. We have talked about this before, and I still can't believe the lack of information provided by PSA about what cards will or will not be graded. At $35 each, my cards will remain "raw" for a long time. It's not even worth taking a chance if I'm going to receive a voucher for free gradings at this service level - what else could I possibly submit?

This is frustrating. I have a lot of cards that I'd love to have graded.

    JEB.
  • Hey Jeb

you can return the vouchers back and have them credit your creditcard. If you paid with a M.O. or check, you may be stuck with the vouchers.

Are you kidding? Is that general knowledge or is it posted anywhere on the website? This is the first time that I ever heard this mentioned. I have about 4 or 5 that I'll never use right now.

Anyone else done this? Is it too late if they are 3-5 months old?

    Thanks.

    JEB.
  • Jeb,

How about a pile of 15. Now thats my fault but hey they get lost on my desk somewhere. 6 months later I find them. Gee what can I do?? Imo they should be good anytime.

    Gator
  • JEB,

I hear on the vouchers and I raised that concern with them today. They would owe me 16 vouchers at $35 a pop plus the fact they they gave me permission to submit these 3 different times with shipping fees both ways. It adds up. I was first told they will credit my card for all of these fees. Tonight they called me back and said Joe is reviewing the entire situation and I will hear from them tomorrow.

To be honest I just want to find a way to get them graded and the money is a secondary auction. For my HOF registry set I real want some of these cards in so that I am not forced to put in HOF cards from the 1980's like I am forced to do with so many other hall of famers that have no cards from their playing days. I really hope we can work something out.

I'll update you tomorrow when I hear something.

  • Tom,

Thanks for the update. That is what I fear will happen to me if I submit any cards for grading at this level. It's almost not worth the cost of grading alone for some of the cards that I'd like to submit. I just can't afford to take that kind of a hit if they are not holdered. The vouchers would be worthless to me.

Let me know how it turns out.

    JEB.

    JEB,

That's exactly why I had them give me written permission (via e-mail) to sent these cards each time. That permission is what has me confused as well. The first time I can see they ran across and unexpected issue. But the second and third times I figured they learned how to fix it. Notta.

After our phone conversation last week when we agreed on how they'd be holder I thought we finally put this baby to bed. But to just send the cards back without even a phone call to explain why has me a bit out of sorts.

Hopefully Joe can clear it up tomorrow. But it doesn't look good since the cards are on their way home image

So much for getting that Stargell graded huh?

More than one Stargell in my collection will need to be in this holder and I have many cards (other than Stargell) that I'd like to submit as well.

I'll wait for a clear answer from PSA (preferably a regularly updated list of what cards will be graded) and a lower price before submitting anything.

The scientific term for that explanation is bulls#!t, because that definitely didn't happen when they consolidated the C56/Imperial Tobacco listings.

  • Jeb,

I've returned many vouchers myself and asked them to credit it back to my creditcard. You can call PSA customer service and let them know that you wish to have the charges credited back to your creditcard. You also need to write them a letter stating this and send back the unused vouchers.

It's common sense, you paid for a service but didn't get it.

Now if you sent in a check or Money order, your stuck with the vouchers!

  • As stated before, we were experimenting with options on cards that are close but do not fit the holders exactly. We decided that it would be in your best interests as well as PSA's to not force the issue because we want to make sure the cards not only look good but that they are secure in the holder.

I am sorry for the confusion in CS - we continue to look for options.

    I also appreciate your patience.

    Joe,

With all due respect, I have many cards that are holdered in regular slabs and tall boys that "do not fit the holders exactly".

    Please elaborate.

    Thanks.

    JEB.
  • Joe,

I certainly understand when new problems like this arise there will be issues that need to be worked out. I guess my only real concern moving forward is do you actually plan to holder 5" x 7" cards as well as some of the other odd sized issues (Beehives, etc.) ? If so, when?

Is there a possibility of having a series of inserts made for the T3 holder to handle these cards? Maybe the cost of all of this just makes a solution impossible...I don't know? I realize at $35 a pop it's already turning off most potential submitters. For my purposes I'm ready to pay a premium.

Any conversation we can have that works towards a future solution would be great. Thanks for addressing this issue today and I look forward to a happy solution.

  • Guys,

The inserts to handle 5" x 7" cards in T3 holders will not be available for at least 6-9 months. Not great news but at least we now know.
    I'll be waiting patiently.

As far as the voucher v. refund issue, we agreed to vouchers. They preferred vouchers, but were not opposed to a refund. I went with their preference since I have lots more to submit anyway.

  • On the T3 holders - they are not only longer and wider -they are thicker.

The problem is that huge mylar might not be appropriate in this case -like it is on with some other issues that will fit inside tallboy holders.

In any event, I imagine that we will eventually be able to holder other various sizes, however, please understand that this is not a real high priority fpr PSA since these cards are very, very scarce in comparison to most exisitng/grade-worthy cards.
