Hi there,
I have an N172 1887 Old Judge card (Pete Gillespie) that is in great condition; SGC 84 (which crosses to a PSA 7). I'd like to get the maximum value for this card, so my question is, do I go the ebay route or a "standard" auction house such as superior, mastronet etc. What's your opinion? Thanks.

You would kick in a higher % (15%) to the auction houses, and then the buyer also has to pay an additional 15% (of which you get zero). so if the card reached $625 on auction, the buyer would pay $718.75 plus shipping, and your net would be $531.25,
and it may take several weeks to tie it in to an auction and a few more weeks for your payment. With eBay, you can auction it today and have your money next week. I have sold a few lots for over $1000. So your card would get serious play too! Nowadays, big ticket items sell regularly. Plus I'm not sure that the big boys like Mastro would take just 1 NM 7 card, it smrs for $600, and they would probably take it if you had others for a larger lot. Superior might be interested though. I'm not an expert on Old Judges so I don't know what is more beneficial, your SGC NM card as is or if it was crossed to a PSA-7...jay
