As some of you already know, numismatic pioneer B. Max Mehl was my great uncle. (Edited to add: More appropriately, I am HIS great nephew - the emphasis should be on him, not me).
I just received a gift from a good forum buddy of mine who was aware of that - a June, 1908 Mehl's Numismatic Monthly. It's WAY cool and I am truly touched by such a thoughtful and generous gesture.
I have seen several B. Max Mehl Rare Coin Encyclopedia's over the years but was unaware of these earlier Numismatic Monthly's. This one lists a choice Fine 1793 Wreath cent for sale at $15 and an AU 1793 Half Cent for the same price - we recently paid more than 600 times that for a similar Half Cent. There are also some fine articles, as well as a number of other rare coin bargains.
So, a public thanks to my pal, for a gift I will always treasure.

So was this connection how you got into the hobby, or some other means?
Wow, do you think coin collecting is congenital?...

My "great" uncle, B. Max Mehl was not responsible for my interest in the hobby. Sadly, he died when I was about 2 years old. However, the known family connection has certainly given me considerable added interest, enjoyment and pride in what I do.
i luv this thread and the historical connections between great numismatists of the past with present and up and coming future numismatists!
