Don't you just hate it when....

this happens to you?!?!

I have a beautiful 5oz Silver Tiger from Singapore that I have been keeping on my desk at home as a show piece. I keep it in the hard plastic capsule so that you can see the coin, but the coin won't get damaged. A truly beautiful DCAM piece that I love to show off to friends and family...

The other day, a friend of my wife was over at the house and noticed the coin. She picked it up to look at it and since there were smudges on the capsule, she opened the capsule, pulled the coin out and promptly FINGERPRINTED the friggin' coin! imageimageimage

I have 4 kids who have looked at and admired the coin and it has been sitting on my desk for 2 years w/o a single problem, but one careless friend is all it takes... I guess I should chalk this up to lessons learned the hard way... imageimageimage

First use a liitle acetone to remove the fingerprint. Then glue the case shut and put it back on your desk.

  • I did a similar thing with my first capsule.... I pulled the coin out and then I tried to put it back, not noticing that there were cogs on the top portion that, unless the coin is perfectly centered, would halt at the coin's rim and prevent the capsule from being closed. It took me probably several minutes to figure out how to shut the capsule image

The coin has a nice rim now, a genuine mint error image

    Two great answers!
  • This has never happened to me, I mean with a friend of the Wifes or my 3 kids. I did it however when I got my first Canadian 5 dollar maple (1997 I believe) I was going to take it out of the package (Which I now know never to do) and put it in a lock tight capsule, but forgot to put on some surgical gloves. I bought another one a week later, luckily not so expensive.
