While cards is my passion, I do have other collections (but don't really pursue much these days). They include:

    Books
    CDs
Military/Historical Memorabilia (mostly American Civil War and World War II)
Science Fiction Stuff (Star Wars/Star Trek mostly)
    Coins
    Foreign Currency
I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.
  • Beside cards, I collect games used bats. I currently have a game used bats from the following players; Rogers Hornsby, Pee Wee Reese, George Sisler, Ernie Banks, Barry Bonds, Pete Rose, Sammy Sosa, Albert Pujols, Vlad Guerrero to name just a few. I am a big Hillerich & Bradsby fan so all of my game used bats are Louisville Sluggers. I am a big Pee Wee Reese collector and have many original vintage photos of him. My favorite is a photo of him in spring training in Cuba in 1941 laying out like superman. His whole body is at least 3 feet of the ground. I purchased the photo from Mastro's auction a couple of years ago. It was pricy, but worth it. If anyone has any unique or action photos of Pee Wee Reese I would be interested in purchasing them.

Oh, I also collect $100 bills. I like to try to get as many of them as I can.

I also collect concert posters - mainly Phish. I have about 600 or so CD's too, but I don't really consider those to be collectibles.

I am starting to collect memorabilia as well. I have the following game used bats: Pete Rose 1981, Luzinski 1980, and Matty Alou 1966. The Alou bat is very cool as it was a surprise gift from my brother-in-law. I would like to add a Schmidt bat to the collection one day as well as a Rose Phillies jersey.

Comics. I've collected comics continuously since about 1978. I took a break from cards in my teens, but I always read comics. Though I haven't gotten into slabbed books yet, this segment of the hobby seems to be where cards were back around 1999 or so. There are lots of nice books out there in the hands of people who are in the "I don't need to pay anyone to tell me what grade it is" phase, until they see what that opinion is worth when they try to sell. Even brand new books, books that were on the shelves a month ago and still sell for cover price can sell for $30-40 in a CGC 9.8 slab and $100+ in a 9.9. Older books sell for 5-25x book value in top slabbed grade. I don't like slabs because you obviously can't read the book, but that's not what that game is about. There is a registry, though, so it can be amazing to look at a run of top-grade Kirby/Lee FFs or Ditko Spider-Mans, for instance.

I've got "accumulations" of various other things like DVDs, James M. Cain and Richard Brautigan books, Soundgarden bootlegs, Hot Wheels, Magic Cards, and Mage Knight/HeroClix, but nothing I'd exactly call a collection.

Or if anybody else can help me I would appreciate it.

  • Cards got me back to collecting in the late 80’s. I built a strong 1965 Topps set, and was working on ’53 Bowman. But then I got hooked on game-used bats, and sold most of the cards. Being a Dodger collector, I assembled a collection of bats of Robinson, Campanella, Snider, Reese, Hodges, Drysdale, Koufax, and about 20 others. Then I sold them to concentrate on items related to Koufax’s career. So now I collect his game-used stuff, tickets from games he won, line-up cards from games he pitched in, wire-photos, etc. The Bell Brand and Morrell cards I still collect are a way to keep busy in the hobby while searching for Koufax stuff for my collection, which doesn’t turn up very frequently.

Guerrero from Coach's Corner - ASI #26184 - are your bats certified - does this COA mean anything to you? I collect unopened packs (card related) and single signed baseballs from the 500HR club. I also used to collect vintage automobiles (mostly Mustangs) but I ran out of room and patience with restoring them and keeping them on the road. I may eventually get back into it and purchase a nice show quality car for a weekend driver.
  • Ruthfan, do you want to PM me or email me? Or give me your email? What are you interested in? I have tons of autos, all hall of famers, single signed balls, and photos, or lots of high value cards.

I collect Mego action figures and just about anything with KISS on it. I do have a couple of KISS stage worn costume pieces. Baseball cards, however, take up almost all of my collecting dollar.

I guess it qualifies as a "collection" now that I've got about 30 or so. I collect $5 casino chips from every casino I've played at. Mostly Las Vegas, but there are some from Atlantic City and New Orleans. They're not valuable ($5!) or rare limited editions or anything.
  • I collect NC State memorabilia, mostly football programs. I'm attempting to put together a collection of a program from every game home/away from the last 40 years...If anyone has any of this, please let me know...
  • Bottle caps (crowns) - collection currently at 2000+, stamps dealing w/ Pablo Picasso, US Coins, and antiques.

  • Boston, you can email me at tevans@eckart.com
  • Stone, your bat is probably an X bat with a COA from ASI (Authentic Sports Investments). They are a reputable group because they have signed many players to contracts to purchase their game used items. They have many very good players on their roster such as, AROD, Pudge, Sammy to name a few. I don't know if they have exclusice contracts but they do obtain their items straight from the players. Most of my vintage bats come with a COA from Dave Bushing. Dave is considered the top authenticator of bats in the industry. Dave is considered THE one especially when it comes to vintage bats. A good person to deal with on modern era bats is Zane Burns in Tennessee. If you need any of their phone numbers let me know. Some of my modern bats I have obtained directly from players or coaches. If you need any other info please feel free to ask.

Yes, I am a BROOKLYN Dodger fan. Pee Wee, Duke, Campy, Jackie, etc. Most of my Reese collection consists of very early memorabilia.

  • By the way, my typo above was supposed to say exclusive contracts. Sorry.
  • UConn athletics memorabilia, I've been trying to concentrate on pre war stuff....but figuring the graduating classes at that time could be counted on one's fingers, and the fact it wasn't a nationally recognized institution until about a decade ago...the process has been slow, and tedious.

Ruthfan - yes it is an X bat - very good; thanx on the phone#'s Burns ads in SCD - isn't Bushing working as a grader? I have '55 and '56 WS Dodger press pins that I really like. Do you collect WS stuff from back then - got an x-tra '55 WS program in ex. condition (no tears, creases etc.) you could consider for trade - that comes to mind.

    Great thread!

I collect anything and everything relating to Gary Carter, Reggie Jackson, Ron Gant and 1970's-80's Dallas Cowboys. I love game used stuff more than anything, but the rise in prices over the last 5 years has changed the way I collect or I should say the amount. I used to try to buy every game used piece from those guys that came my way, not I have to be much more descriminating.

Anyone interested in collecting game used bats from the turn of the century to the mid-90's shoudl try to find a copy of Vince Malta's book Bats. This book is so informative that it completely takes the worry and guesswork out of it. Also, it eliminates the need for the so called experts to authenticate. Wiht a little education bat collecting becomes very fun and honestly very easy.

1420--have you checked out Baseball Fanatic in Gloucester City? This shop's owner gets the greatest Phillies game used memorabilia I have ever seen. I have bought stuff from him for years, he is rock solid! If you want some info. send me a PM.

  • I've been collecting Silver & Bronze Age Comics (Amazing Spider-Man & X-Men) since 1975.
Just recently, I've been submitting to CGC and I've been getting great results.
For the fellow board members, who collect comics, have your comics graded.
Check out the CGC Registry, there are CGC comic collectors with breath taking collections (i.e. Captain Tripps & Ghost Town).
