79 OPC Gretzky PSA 9

If this is legit, this would be an absolute steal.......I've already e-mailed him for the serial number.

Our own shagrotn is either going to be very very happy or incredibly PO'd when the card arrives. My guess is that he's getting taken for a ride, but I hope I'm wrong.

  • Wow. That's a risky proposition. This seller had no feedback in over a year and a half. The buyer has bigger balls than I do.

Good morning, Tom. I'm sure you've noticed my meteoric rise to first place in the hockey league. One more week, then the playoffs. Hope you can right your sinking ship before then. Heh.

Anyway, Ray e-mailed me to point out that the seller lives in St. Louis so I'm going to try to complete the transaction for shagrotn. I'm puttin' 3-2 odds on the card actually being a 9OC. The 18-1 Budweiser longshot is that the dude e-mails Ray the serial number of Ray's own Gretzky that's shown on the Registry.

  • Hi Ray,

If this seller really needed the money, why would he
sell something that could have sold for 2 grand more?

    Marc,
I didn't purchase the card. It was purchased by Andy (shagrotn).
I do think it would be the steal of the year if it is legit.

I would say that the seller either :

    A. Just didn't do his homework (believe it or not, there are still some people out there not familiar with the prices of slabbed cards)
    B. Really needs the money, like right now!
    or
    C. Is just trying to see if he can scam a few grand quickly.

I know that the winner of the auction (shagrotn) has been trying for quite some time to get a PSA 9 Gretzky,
and I know that he was also suspicious of the seller before bidding, but felt that it might be worth his risk.

I guess we will find out soon enough.....

  • Good point Ray ! If he didn't do his homework, then we'll
have one happy new Gretzky rookie owner.
I truely hope that this is the case.

If I was the buyer, I would request lots of information
from the seller before he sends out payment.

I hope shagrotn doesn't go to the bank and post
office before protecting himself first. Nobody else
will protect him, so he'll have to do it himself.

I bought something on ebay a while back that was
a real nice item at a fair price. The guy refused to sell
it to me after he decided he could have got more for
it. I had to send him a threatening email to change his mind.
It was a very unpleasant experience.
I had his address and found out a river near his house.
I told him that my buddies and I like to hunt and fish
near that river and we would visit him on our next trip.
He changed his mind after hearing this ridiculous bluff that is so out of my character.

He has a link posted in his items for paypal. I would just paypal him the money and see what happens. i would not send a money order as the auction states. I have noticed that alot of the stolen accounts have paypal links but say the only accept money orders. why wouldn't he take the paypal payment if he really needs the money and if he says it is becasue of the fees , I would give him the fees even though it is against there policy so that you have backed him in to a corner to see if he is legit or now. If it's not then you charge him back through your credit card.

Chump!!! Being in 1st place 20 weeks out of the 22 week season have put me to sleep. I admit it. I had no idea until this weekend that Belfour was on the IR along with Kozlov. I also missed that folks like Samsonov never played even though they weren't listed as injured.

I WILL crush Basilone this week!!!
I will sleep through next weeks chump!!!
Then, in the playoffs I will CRUSH the stinkin' Tweakers or whatever you call the group of girls you call a fantasy hockey team!!!!

    NO MERCY!!!!!

    Yawie99,

I read your thread. That's super that you'd be willing to help me out with this transaction. I've been on eBay since '98 and I'm in no way naive to the corrupt ways of many supposed 'sellers', so at this point I'm still leaning towards this purchase being 100% bogus. Having someone there to pick up the card in person would make me feel so much more at ease. Please e-mail me at shagrotn77@aol.com and we can discuss further. Thanks again!

That is a real grudge match between you and John, Tom. You've bolted to an early lead but there's a lot of hockey left.

Andy, I'll e-mail you by the afternoon hopefully.

    John,

I agree about the playoffs. That's what I hate about head-to-head leagues. The regular season isn't worth all that much. There is one good thing that came from it though....the punk Putty got his a$$ handed to him image How many year in a row is that now Putty?

Lil' Gretzky doing much better. He's a very happy little boy these days. Thanks for asking.

    Yaw,

My recent drop is just the lull before the storm. Your team is peaking 2 weeks too early. Must be the coach!!

Yeah, I'm hoping I'm not going to suffer the same fate I did in my Yahoo football league. I was like the Chiefs, starting 7- or 8-0, then sputtered down the stretch before losing my first playoff game when I went up against a team with Clinton Portis the week he had like 5 touchdowns.

I like my chances here, though. I checked the other day and I'm something like 43-16-11 over the last month and a half. And I like the head-to-head scoring. Makes it more like real hockey and its marathon, but not-too-meaningful regular season.

Like I said...you're peaking too early. Get ready for the biiiiiiiiiiggggggggggggg ddddddddrrrrrrrrroooooooopppppppppp.

BTW, I won my Football, Hockey, and Baseball leagues last year. I'm not ready to let that streak break.

Yeah, but are you dominating your fantasy English soccer league the way I am in my league?

If you're in a fantasy soccer league you've taken geekdom to a whole new level.

I let my geek flag fly. And that's first place without the benefit of Fox Sports World, no less.
