Heritage Value Index

Does anyone know what happened to the Heritage Value Index(HVI)? All (or nearly all) the prices have been wiped out. The HVI is one of the price guides I use when trying to get a fix on the price of a coin I'm interested in. It's a recent development as I seem to recall everything was fine last week.

  • Dan,

Its not working for me either, regardless of if I am signed in or not. Luckily for me, I wrote down all the ranges for the in which series I am interested and keep it by the computer.

I wonder if it is a conspiracy linked to their increase in prices on "buy it now" type items? image

Or the server with the previous auction prices is down.

    Dan,

If you're refering to that "value" that they put on your coins when you put them in your "My Heritage," it's a total joke.... no where near accurate. Man, if only I could buy them for that...

  • The values in the HVI are low but I treat them like I do Greysheet bid (as a wholesale starting point).

  • They were moving; maybe they were updating their servers too.

  • Good example of the Heritage valu index being off, they show my proof 67 1914 buffalo being worth 2900-3600, the last 2 pieces of that date & grade sold in their own auctions for on either side of 4800.

When I look at the Heritage value index I figure that if I can get the coin within the price range they show that it is a very good buy. Rarely do I see the ones I'm interested in sell for even the top end of the range, mostly they seem to go higher.

The Heritage index compliments the other price guides to give me a great range for what my coins are worth. My Excel worksheet contains my cost, CDN bid, Heritage low and high, CU price guide and CW Coin Value (formally Trends). Knowing CDN and Heritage are on the low side and CU and CW are more retail (high side) gives me a good "feel" for the market on all my PCGS Lincoln mint state and proof cents. Steveimage

Heritage offers an exceptional price guide on coins..............the permanent auction archives. They give you a true representation of what the market is paying, although you must remember that most pieces are not at the top end of the grade.
