steve- already addicted to classic commems. Couldn`t sleep last night thinking about a visit from my dealer friend today. I have a Boone 1937 set, a Robinson, and a couple of Texas. He has a Boone 1938 set and a Texas 1938 set. Will be looking at coins and deciding on some type of trade hopefully! I love visits from my friend!!!!
  • I read the article about two weeks ago. It's really good, and it has helped me refine my spastic, disorganized perspective on commems!

These might make nice Registry sets.

I've also noticed "themes" within the commem series, and started a themed set about 2mo's ago. Since i dig boats, my set has a "nautical theme" and consists of (when complete) all commems with boats. here it is:

    Columbian
    Delaware
    Hudson
    Huguenot
    Long Island
    Norfolk
    Pilgrim
Providence (optional. although no big boat (canoe), anchor and theme is "nautical")

Someone affiliated with that website wrote an awesome article a while back about registry sets. He basically spoke about the importance of a well matched set ie) mixing circ w/ unc; toners w/ blast white; and having 1 or 2 coins in a set that define the set. Reading his article has prompted me to rework my collections and refine my collecting habits (thru better defined goals). I think you can even take his suggestions one step further (i won't bore you with the details) which is what i plan on doing with a diff set. However with this set, if all goes according to plan, I should end up with highly lustrous toners, in the 63/64 range.

Big Al- Don`t forget Bay Bridge and San Diego. There`s little ships on them.

thanks mommam, those two along w/ the Roanoke will probably make it in the 'optional' category (due to size of boat and "theme" of the coin is not really nautical) but it definitely gives me an excuse to expand!

Try putting a really outstanding set of Oregons together. How about a quasi outstanding set? It's not easy these days......

I've got a pretty big want list for these and the vast majority out there makes me less than enthused.
