Help with old coins please

Would someone be willing to recomed a place to obtain a fair evaluation on a mess of old coins? I live in Illinois about 60 miles north of St. Louis, I have about 25 lbs. of coins from $20 US gold to Mexican pesos & everything in between. All help will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance Len

I live in St. Louis. I do NOT recommend going to any of the advertised coin dealers in the St. Louis area.

First, there's no excuse for not becoming educated yourself. Get yourself a copy of the Red Book and Krause's Catalog of World Coins (both are available at your local public library). You might also consider obtaining a copy of Photograde, which will help you grade circulated coins. Second, if you just want to sell the items, then consider sending them to Michael Dixon LINK TO THREAD.

I second Michael Dixon, assuming that the coins are worth something. Do enough due dilligence to determine if they are worth mailing/insuring.
    I collect circulated U.S. silver
  • I too encourage you to do your own research as well. If you have some $20 gold as you say you do it would be well worth the time and effort.

Your library should have some coin books as previously mentioned. Take a look at www.stantonbooks.com for the varitety of coin publications available. This site offers the Red Book for US coins and the Krause's catalog for world coins.

    Good luck. image
