Harp and Pea-ock- coin and or token?

My supervisor at work handed me a copper coin it has a pea- ock on one side and a harp on the other. The side with the harp has 1971 and EIRE. The other side has what looks like a pea- ock and a large IP.Does anyone know anything about it? He wants me to find out what it is.

What you have is a 1 penny from Ireland. They were used when they switched to the decimal system, like we have in the USA.
Those coins were replaced by the Euro.
No it isn't worth anything. $0.20 tops.
And it is bronze, not copper.

you think that one is "stylize" you should see the other two!!

Here are the three different bronze coins they used that had birds on the backs.
1/2 penny, 1 penny, 2 penny.
But since you said "peac-ck" I am guessing you have the 1 penny.

For the 1/2, 1 and 2 penny coins Krause says the Celtic design are 'stylized birds'. The Schon catalog says the designs are of 'fabulous creatures according to an ancient Irish manuscript'.
