Are Washington's overpriced right now? Edited

Over the last few months, it seems that the prices on even the more common dates are headed upward. I tend to think some dates are really overpriced. Here's a 37P MS 65 that sold on ebay tonight that really seems to be high.

37P

The same dealer also had a 35D and 36S in MS 64 that closed for well above the range of an MS64. Where is the limit? Is there a limit? Opinions?

Edited to add this one. I was watching this one as well. Closed about two times above trends.

48D

Maybe Quattrocoins could tell us what he saw in this one.

I watched this one from start to close. While the scan looks decent it is raw. The nice thing about scans do tend to show where the wear is very clearly, but this one doesn't seem to have any, but I would have to see the coin in person before I paid this kind of money.

  • Dennis,

I agree with you as far as recent prices are concerned. I believe that it is do with a number of things, the most obvious being all the new players in the series. I have watched my "Bringing Up The Rear" set go from the mid 80s to #94 in the past few weeks. Two new sets also just recently debuted in the top 12.

Another thing is the season, which I believe is prime right now. The two big year-opening shows (FUN & L.B.) are behind us, and people are lookin' to buy somewhere. Football is over, and it's still too cold for a lot of the population to spend time outdoors. There always seems to be a spurt this time of year.

As for that '48-D I just picked-up, I did that by mistake. I noticed just before it closed (I was listing more at the time) that I had bid $248 by mistake instead of just $48 to "mark" it. Instead of retracting the bid (which I've never done) I just let it ride and hoped for the best. It may have been a little high, but it will still be a fair price if the coin is nice. They aren't the easiest date to get with nice eye-appeal.

Quattrocoins: The 48-D you bought appears to be a real cut above the one you sold. I liked the one you bought but did not feel the same way about the one you sold. Of course, this is looking at pics.

I have a feeling you will not be displeased with the one you bought even though you spent more than an additional $100 in the process and at the same grade.
