EDITED..Just bought a 1928 Peace dollar, I'm crossing my fingers...

Well recieved an email from the seller, a day after the invoice.

<<Hi, thankyou for your purchase...i accidently put
this on a buy it now ...however thats life...you got
it fair and square...after you receive the coin
plese leave a positive feedback...if you feel so
inclined...respectfully XXXX XXXX>>>

I'm assuming that there wasn't supposed to be the $1 in the BIN spot.

My reply

<<XXXX
If the coin is a 1928. I have one heck of a deal.
Sometimes it's hard to tell the date in those plastic
holder. Many times the coin is a 1923. (Please check) (atribute this line to Peaceman!!!(thanks))
Do me a favor. Since it seemed to good to be true,
and I firmly beleive it was a mistake, when the Money
Orders arrives, please cash it and send me back $7($5
+ $2 money order service charge)and we will call it
even. Please don't send the MO back(it's a hassle). (made that up, is it?)
I'll leave a positive when the return money is
recieved.
Relist the coin after that.
You'd be surprised on some deals I have had through
the buy it nows that sellers just wanted to get rid
some coins.
I hope this seems fair to you.
Thanks
Tom>>

Well, we will see what comes in the mail. Either a coin or cash.
He made an honest mistake and what the heck, it's only a Peace dollar(Just Kidding).
Tom

It cost a bunch and the shipping was only $4 bucks.
I hope it doesn't have the "s" mint mark. Couldn't tell from the pic.

Even a hole filler is worth quite a bit more than the $5 total.

Geez, I just realized that $1 was a Buy It Now. What the hell is this guy doing listing a BIN of one whole dollar? Man, this is almost as good as the $15 GSA Morgans! You sure have a nack for finding them! image

  • Yeah, and this one was listed for all of 6 minutes.

    Good work Trooper.

    once again....you suck!
  • How much you want to bet when you open the package (that has one stamp on it) that it's a 1923.... I'll put $ on it.... I always ask before I bid on a qustionable auction... they always come back..... "OMG... you're right.... it IS a 23....."
  • I hope it doesn't come in "pieces!" (Heading says "Piece" dollar)image
  • Peaceman may be right. That pic is so blurry that it could easily be a 3 instead of an 8, and may be intentionally blurry just for that reason. Hope not. image
  • You guys could be right, about it being a 23. But considering it was a $1 (one dollar) Buy it now, I'll take the chance... I have a total of 5 bucks into the coin. It also could be a 1928.

I remember one guy selling GSA dollars for $15 bucks each once(last month).........Ah those were the days.

    Ya just never know.

For $5 shipped it's probably worth the risk.

Could be too he missed and meant to type in $100.00 instead of $1. You might get a friendly email from the Seller stating such.

  • Braddick, thats what I was thinking but he already send an invoice. I'm not sure if you can do an automatic invoice.
    We'll have to see.

Good luck Tom. That would be killer (and, honest!) score.
Well deserved for catching it so quickly.

  • Not trying to put your hopes down..... it just doesn't sound good... take for isnstance this auction....

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2227087229&category=11980

After contacting the seller... they're all 1923.......

Usually when you score a WIN... it's the seller messing up on the auction.... I get some great bargains because people forget to put "PCGS" in the auction or other simple things like that. THis auction was "7 silver dollars" something nobody looks at... if they were actually 1928.... I would have made 2-300% return....
  • I'll edit the post again when (?) arrives.

    Trooper,

If I understand you correctly, you're letting him off the hook?

Tom, I just read your (edited) initial post and want to commend you on your fairness and good sportsmanship. I don't think most buyers would be that gracious.image
  • Good men all around.

We all make mistakes. It sounds like the seller was/is willing to follow through with the error on his part and let you have the coin at the (clearly mistaken) BIN price. It was/is magnanimous of you to offer to let him off the hook and re-list the auction.

  • Yes Russ I am.
    I'm feeling good lately.
One reason I'm letting him off the hook is because of his email saying it was a mistake. If he didn't email me I'd expect the coin.
It comes to reason that the $1 Bin shouldn't have been there. Now if he put a $25 Bin or something other than a buck and sold it not realizing what it worth. Different story. But a $1 BIN?

He also just could not of sent it and took the neg.

I know if it happened to one of us or me I'd hope the buyer would understand.
He still might send the coin, i haven't heard back from him..who knows.

Agreed. This is what would get him off the hook with me:

    << <i>...however thats life...you got
    it fair and square... >>

He stood up like a man and was willing to take his lumps, instead of being a sissy wimp and just refunding your money when he saw what happened.

  • yea Tom, you did the right thing

I don't know if I would have been that kind. image

Hey cool. The seller took it like a man and you're handling like a man. Maybe there's hope for sleazeBay after all. image
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
  • <<He also just could not of sent it and took the neg>>

This comment in the previous post was basicaly since I already sent the Mo before his email was made if he didn't return my money.
I'm not going to neg him because of his mistake described in his email...but I shouldn't be out the cash

    Tom
  • The same thing happened to me with "HSTURN".... I bought a 1928 raw peace dollar BIN for 9.99 2 years ago from him (that was whizzed and looked 63).... in the end he sent it to me.....?

Either way.... however it turns out.... if everyone is happy...... great...
