"Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you." -Luke 11:9
"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might." -Deut. 6:4-5
"For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; He will save us." -Isaiah 33:22
The first one looks real nice, but I find it hard to believe that it's a RB and not a BN. While I'm not sure it's wear, the second coin definately has something going on with his cheek. Where's Wybrit?

Love that first one, but I don't know if I'd pay $750 for it.
Th echeek on the second one may have a touch of wear, but strike was often an issue on these. For over $300 I would not risk getting an AU-55 back from NGC or whomever you might be sending it to.

From what I've gathered on the EAC forum, Ernie's coins can 'push the envelope' on grading. However, I also have a 1770 1/2d. which has that dusky colour on the cheek and highpoints and it is definately in gem condition.....so, the images can be deceiving at best.
Wybrit???? Those two coins don't exist. They are dated before 1838.
MacCrimmon is right. I am no authority on pre-1838 coinage. Of course, I do have an opinion.. Then again, we all know what opinions are like and everyone has one.
I love coin #1. It has incredible detail in Britannia when in many cases there is none.
I don't like coin #2 and wouldn't buy it, even if I was collecting that era.
I like them both. The 66 coin looks primo and the seller said that the red did not show in the scans, so could really be a nice lusterful RB. The price should not be too high for the almighty pound these days. The second one is nice but I would not give it a 63. Maybe a nice AU50-58.
I like both coins, however I'm too cheap to buy either of them - my wife would have several of my body parts posted as trophies above the mantle if I did.
My view of Ernie is that he tends to be a tad optimistic on his grades. That said, I've been completely satisfied with the Conder tokens that I have won on eBay from him. I do not pull the trigger often enough on his items because of his starting prices. I have regretted passing on several of his items (tokens and medals) that I have not seen their equal to since.

The first one is expensive - very expensive. I can see where the 66 comes from but would love to see how much red/lustre there really is because I can't believe the coin looks like that in the hand. Coin is very well struck. But is the profile double struck or just hazy? I'd like to know what that little 'hole' in Britannia's belly is. Finally is there any green? There could be. If you're dedicated to slab grades, well that's ok. Then I suppose it's worth a $250+ premium.
The second should be left WELL alone. You may be looking at a good picture of an EF coin. It's a racing certainty to get an AU from a slabber.
The thing with these George III Halfpennies is that there are a lot of them around in high grade.

"Strange, the seller calls it a VF-20 on his own site, but it's magically XF-40 when listed on ebay.
