SMS set questions

I picked up from a friend about 40 or so SMS sets from 65-67. Some are in blue boxes and others are flat packs. Did the SMS sets come in 2 different forms? At what grade are coin that are non cameo worth getting graded? I have a 30 1966 sets and dang the Kennedys are nice in some - shot 68''s I guess

I don't know about values, but yes, the US Mint did package them two ways.

The 1965 were all flat pack, 1966 and 1967 are all hard plastic with the box.

Unless they're a die variety, MS68.

I've seen them on the Coin Vault as part of their sale of 40 years of proof sets (this is not an endorsement!) Yes, they include them with the proof sets so there's no break in the run. The 1965's were in flat packs and the 1966-67's were packaged similar to the way proof sets are now. I don't know if the 1966-67's were in original Mint packaging, though.

They need to be cameo or MS68, maybe MS67 on the Kennedys, to be worth slabbing. Also some double dies, but I am not very familiar with them.

Even on the Kennedys they need to be MS68. MS67's only bring about $25 to $30 for the 1965, and less for the other two years.

What are the varieties that I should be looking for? I think I found a Jeff DDO already but have not looked at most coins yet.
