Burlington NC show report with my only purchase pictured

Well, again in this area, much of the same. It seems just about every show I go to, there's not a whole lot to choose from, unless you're a Morgan collector. It seems every dealer has tons of Morgans. Don't get me wrong, I like Morgans but unless they jump out at you or are beautifully toned, just not my interest at this time. And I didn't see but one nicely toned GSA that I didn't even ask, since I know the guy and he places a high premium on the toners.

I'm an SLQ collector, so I always look for interesting SLQ's. Almost nothing today, since there was no purchase. A Ty2 17-S in an NTC holder MS63. Not an MS63, probably a 2, dipped out as well. A couple overpriced 23-s's, and then a little common stuff. A nice 17P toner, but too low a grade for me, like Fine probably.

Then there's always the guys that specialize in state quarters (I admit I did pick up a couple D mints that I simply can't find in circulation here in NC until they're beat to he|l), or the other guy that has modern commems (I've bought a couple things from him in the past, but nothing today).

Saw a couple people with proof sets, but since I'm not Russ, Marty, or Ken, I don't really know what to look for. I figured they were already picked over since everything I saw was opened anyway.

And how about this? A dealer chock full of NTC slabs, many just graded as "authentic." Wow. I feel really comfortable paying $650 for an ungraded Isabella in an NTC slab.

The only thing I could find that was worth my money was this blue toned IHC. I like it. Got it for about 63 money. Do you guys think it grades that? It's got all the diamonds and I don't see any rub, but it's not really my series. And BTW, I wanted to take a look at it ouside the 2x2, and the dealer manhandled it by touching the surfaces many times. Should I worry about this? That's probably how he handled it to get it in the 2x2 anyway.

That's about all. If you're in the area, it's worth a trip to look around. But I wouldn't go out of my way driving more than an hour or so to make it. Just MHO.

Thanks for listening.

    jxnboy,
I know the dealer your refferring too, and he is a well respected member of our local coin club, but deals in and sells the most NTC junk I have ever seen. Not only that, he has half of the club members submitting coins thru him to NTC.

    What a shame!

I have to admit I'm not crazy about the Indian. The blue toning could have come from a dip in an ammonia solution. Since it isn't slabbed I would expect the worst.
    All glory is fleeting.
