Looking for Info on '34 Goudey eBay Listing

There was a complete 1934 Goudey set listed on eBay
earlier this week. Over half the set was PSA graded and
I was very interested in watching this auction.
The auction ended early and I e-mailed the seller but have
gotten no response. Was this sold off-line to a board
member?
Anyone have info? GoSoxBoSox? 34GoudeyCollector?

  • Hey Bill,

I don't know this seller too well but I've run into him on the buy side here and there. When he listed this auction I sent him a long e-mail requesting information on the set. The lack of detail about each card was poor it was impossible for me to put a value on the auction.

His description stated the SMR is $25,000 for this lot. I found this entertaining since two thirds of the lot were not graded. In fact, he never stated which cards were graded. He just stated the number of 5's, 6's and 7's. As we both know the price fluxuates greatly depending on the card number.

Also, on the raw cards and star cards he never gave a card by card description or gave decent pictures.

He totally ignored my request for information. I have to believe some moron made an off-line offer that he couldn't refuse since the set wasn't anywhere near the value of $25,000 or that he simply never wanted to sell the set. I he did he certainly would have answered my questions. I know he knows I'm a serious buyer.

I'm not surprised he has ignored your questions as well.

  • Thanks for the info Tom. I had the exact same problem.
Very poor description and it was almost impossible to
calculated a true set value without knowing specific
grades assigned to specific cards. I asked the day the
listing started but as I said before - no luck.
Oh well, we move on and take our "spending money"
    elsewhere. image

  • Hey Bill...didn't you forget something in your "Looking for" list on your signature line?

  • How's that? I didn't want to overload my wantlist so
I dropped a modern set and added the '34 Goudeys.

Everytime I try to set this set down I seem to run into
you and you get me moving again. Thanks for the kick
in the a$$ when I need it.
