Anyone in THIS forum a Hard Times Token expert?

I got very little info in the U.S. forum on these but Askari said I should check here in this forum. Before I go to all the trouble describing it again, I'll wait and see if anyone here can provide adequate assistance. Thanks.

A friend has an 1837 he says is identical to the one in ebay. Item 2224476299. He says his is just in better shape. He noticed there have been no bids on this one that started at $55. He was wanting to know what the approximate value SHOULD be so he knows about where to start his bidding and actually get some bids.

Well if his token is truly in better shape than the one listed on eBay, he's getting close to choice condition. If it's actually UNC, it has a catalog value of $300.00. What the REAL market is on that type of piece though, I couldn't say. If the coin was Red or Red-brown UNC, I'd probably start it at $159.00 and see where it went. If it's only a little bit better than the piece shown, I'd give it a try at $49.00. In either case he should describe it accurately and attribute it. Nowhere does the current seller give the cat# on this piece (which is HT#250 for your friend's reference) and he also describes the coin as having lots of lustre, which I just don't see. The token may be worth $55.00, but people may be put off by what appears to be a somewhat 'optimistic' description and grade.
