    I Believe it is a Lion Statue in Switzerland and 1768 is the start of the Encyclopaedia Britannicaimage

    Yep.. the Löwendenkmal in Lucerne. Really a cool sight in person image

    Google sucks, but try "Lucerne lion" in the image search and you'll find a few pics showing the full area around it. Here's a kinda-closeup:

    If I remember correctly, there was an excavated tar pit nearby?? Has anyone else been there? I think I'm going crazy and can't remember this for sure!
