Can anyone help me identify this coin from a description?

Got this email from a customer:
"Dan,
Just received the Somalia/zodiac set from an ebay auction. Nice
coins...and the Afghan bill was a nice touch. I'm taking you at your
word about looking for a particular coin. I have scant information (I
saw the coin once...twenty years ago), but you may have the info tucked
away in some shadowed corner of your mind. It was a foreign coin, I
believe it was of the silver bullion variety, and on it was a picture of
a man in some sort of Arabian clothing doing a dance with swords. If I
remember correctly the name of the coin reflected this. I couldn't
afford it at the time, but am now more on the affluent side of abject
poverty. Should my description ring a bell, and you think you can
locate one, drop me a line, give me a price and we'll go from there."

I know the darkside can figure out most anything........image

  • It's unusual to have any human portrayals on Islamic coins. Some rulers are on the more moderate regimes like Egypt, Iran, Morocco, Jordan, etc but I can't think of any silver 'dancer' design. Perhaps a medal?

  • While I collect mostly liteside, I lurk here and read all (almost) the post. The knowledge, which is so freely shared, is astounding. If the answers above turn out to be correct or even incorrect I hope Danglen updates us on this mystery.
