Saving on Lodging at the National Convention in Cleveland

There's no need to obtain lodging for the National Convention in Cleveland through the official housing web site. If you're like me and would rather spend more on cards and less on lodging, it is easy to get steep discounts at sites like priceline.com and hotwire.com.
The official convention housing bureau is asking $109 for rooms at the Marriott. However, yesterday I was able to get a room at the same Marriott through priceline.com for three nights (July 22, 23, 24) for $37 a night plus $11.99 in room taxes/fees, for a total of $48.99 a night -- less than half of the $109 that the housing bureau wanted! I bid $37 for a three-star hotel. Make sure you click on just "Cleveland Airport Vicinity" when promted to pick an area. You don't get to pick the precise hotel when bidding, but there are only 3 three-star hotels in the "Cleveland Airport Vicinity," and all three (Marriott, Sheraton, Radisson) are connected with the convention and have free shuttles to the Convention Center.

I'm already sharing the room expenses with at least one other collector and perhaps even a third. We like nice accommodations, but cheap!

Another collector I know used priceline.com to get a room for two days at the same exact price as mine with taxes/fees ($48.99) but at the Sheraton instead of the Marriott, which is where I'll be.
