Do any of you know what these marks are?

I've wanted to ask this question but until I had a camera that took nice pictures I couldn't. Do any of you know what these marks are on this coin? There are two sets of marks, both the same, on Ikes upper lip and ear. I have no idea what they are. It look as if these marks were made at the mint. Any clues?

  • They look like reeded edge marks.
From the edge of another coin

    I don't buy slabs I make them
  • If they are "gashes" and both the look the same and size I'd go with the edge from another coin also,

Oh yeah..yes...I see that now. I just held up another Ike dollar to this coin and could see that the reeded edge marks of this coin match the 73 silver Ike. Wow I learned something. How does this happen? Is it how these coins where handled at the mint? Are these Ike 40%silvers put into mint bags thus causing these contact marks?

    Thanks,

  • That happens when you get old, you get crags in your lips and your ear lobes start to droop. Nothing a little botox won't take care of.

  • they are made like machine parts - a press pumps out hundreds every minute and dropped in a container holding thousands of these - when one drops a couple feet and hits another just right, it causes those reed marks
