1903 $20 Liberty Mystery

As collectors chase the 1909-s vdb, 1916, 1955 DD, etc. These are actually common as there always is one up for auction it seems. I like to focus on coins that don't show up as much as people think.

The 1903 Liberty $20.

This is often described as a "common issue" as it has 364 graded at ms65 and about 10 higher. However, why has there been only 17 sales in the last 11 years. And only 5 of them PCGS! I hunted high and low for one of these and gave up with the price of gold forcing these to over $4k and almost $5k for the last PCGS sold. You rarely see these at auction in 65, 64 yes and plenty.

I suspect many of the current 65 pop are resubmissions as a 66 is almost 3x the price.

Anyone else have a date which appears to be common but never comes up for sale?
