I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
George the man has been steadily working up the ladder in the '68 registry and has a beautiful set. From time to time, I have seen him drop some cash on cards that he needs -- I think most people on this board are guilty of that. I don't know what the pop report says about card #10, but this card doesn't show up very often in NM/MT or better. I say, congratulations George...you've got a georgous set!
Well. it will probably come down to the #300 Mike Garcia for my 1957 baseball set. Right now, I don't see myself spending $1200-1500 for this card in PSA 8 , but you never know.
He's lucky he didn't get caught in the bidding war a few weeks back when the #10 went for something like $227. I got mine for $100 luckily. Since you're on the last card topic, anyone have an extra #5 in PSA 8 from '68?

Ok, I'll throw one in as well. Anyone have a 1982 Fleer #499 PSA 9 or 10 Willie Stargell? Great time to speak up - I guarantee you that it will never sell for more than what I'm willing to pay!
When I was attempting the 1970 set, I often went after cards as if they were the last card that I needed in the set and I think a lot of others still do this with their sets. I have been much more frugal lately, and I'm actually enjoying being able to work on many sets at the same time because of it. I have done sets at both ends of the spectrum - 1970 Topps was buy at any price, 1975 Topps is buy PSA 8s for less than the cost of grading. I can't complain. I've learned a lot in the last few years about being patient. That said, I'll still pay outrageously for a 1979 Topps #55 Stargell and the 1982 Fleer #499 Stargell in PSA 9 or 10.
I dropped some serious cash on the last 30 or so 1951 Bowmans. I can't remember what the last one was. I know Greg Porter sold me about seven cards to complete the set and one of them was the infamous Overmire high number card at about $3,800 if I remember correctly (and I'm sure that I don't).
If anyone wants to sell me the following 1972 Topps baseball cards in PSA 7 or 8 I'm prepared to be generous: #292, 465, 467, 518.
Steve
PS: Toppsgun - I appreciate the military aspect of that guy's service. My brother, who served in the first Gulf war, is going back for his third rotation in Iraq next month.
I'm one card away from completing two different sets. I'd probably bid around $500 on a PSA 4 C56 Lester Patrick and around $1,300 on a PSA 8 '53-54 Parkie Gordie Howe. I'd probably settle for a 3 or maybe even a 2 on the Patrick and a 7 on the Howe, but would obviously want to spend much less at those grades.
My 1956 Topps needs one more card to complete the set at PSA 8 or better; it is #100 Orioles Team card (preferably dated version as my other (5) 1st series team cards are dated version).
I was willing to go as high as $1000. about a year ago when this became my final card. In the most recent auction about 2 months ago, I lost with a high bid of $850. (pop for this card in dated version is 18). As time passes, my PSA 7 is looking nicer and nicer. If I were to look at the card and not the holder, I would say that is is nicer than many of the PSA 8's in my set, so I am in no hurry to 'upgrade'.
Here's a list of sets I have failed to close-out because of my terminal cheapness: T227 (Cobb) '37 OPC Baseball (Greenberg) '36-7 OPC Hockey (Broda, Morenz & Shore) '54 Hockey (Howe) '54 Wilson's (Williams) '62 T FB (Unitas psa8) '68 3-d (Clemente) '71 GM (Rose psa9)
I would sell you a Cobb you need but I would need "all the money" for one that would grade a 5 !
q]Wanna laugh?

live each day like it's your last but don't count on it!
We just listed a 518 Garrett and a 292 McRae on ebay today or tonight under mickeys-sportscards. We also have the 465 Hodges for sale at our web store for a reasonable price I believe. Those are tough numbers!
