Graded Card Display cases

Has anybody from this board ever bought one of these from ebay? They look decent in the scans
and cost about 50.00 including shipping. You can hang them on the wall. Anybody? What do you
guys use, if anything, to display cards in your home?

  • Can you post a link? I never saw one and would be interested.

I've mounted the All State Display cases on the wall with the gold trim and the black backs. I use velcro strips and the display looks awesome. The velcro easily comes of the card holder without leaving glue. But it's a pricey way to go.

  • Must be talking about the pennzoni graded card displays. I think their seller id on Ebay is Pennzoni-displays.
I've been wondering the same thing also. Wouldn't mind having four or five in my computer room.

I was going to start building some very large storage cabinets for my cards when I had nearly 3000 PSA graded cards, but since I've sold several sets and I'm more into collecting player sets, I've thought about building something smaller for display purposes. If anyone has any ideas, let me know. I have some sketches, notes, and material lists, but I've never actually taken the time to build anything yet. I'd be happy to receive any input and I'll post photos once I'm finished.

    Thanks.

  • That looks sweet. I haven't seen one like that before.

  • I have onne of these for my Archie Manning player set. It works great with one minor exception. When you close the door some of the cards tip forward against the glass, and when you open it, all of the cards fall forward - and out. I solved the problem by putting a small piece of removalable "earthquake" putty on the back of each card to attach it to the case. (That's the stuff we Californians use to keep breakable stuff from falling off of shelves during earthquakes)

It's a great way to display a group of 30 cards. -hangs just like a picture.

  • Here's a display I built for displaying cards on the wall of my home office. Both the top and bottom have "grooves" so the cards can be lifted out and replaced as I decide I'd like to display other cards.

Not practical for displaying an entire set, but I have been focusing on player sets, and so far it's worked great for that.

Boy, it's hard to make the image less than 50K... here's the top 4 rows (with a lot of compression).

the penzoni 55 card display cases are best.
you'll find 30 sized cases hold too few cards.

  • I have 3 Pennzoni's on my wall in my office. The cards look awesome in them! You probably could build a display, but the Pennzoni price is reasonable.

  • I have had a specialist framer in Manhattan design and build aluminum and glass cases for my 53 Bowman Color and Black and White Sets and they will be finished in about two weeks so if anyone is interested in something similar let me know and I will send you a scan. They are more heavy duty and secure than the ones you get on ebay and are designed for easily taking cards in and out without having to have them lean backwards or put tape on the cards to get them to stand upright like most of the wall display cases you get in the market.

Have 3 Pennzoni's--2 in the living room and 1 in my "card room." Bought them over 2 years ago and they are holding up fine. One is for 67 and 68 HOFers; one is for my pre-67 HOFers, and the other is for post- 68 HOF'ers. Anybody wanting the dime tour next time in WP, can email me.image

  • I have a few different types, i'm not sure if any of them are pennzoni or not. but i'd have to say the best route is to pay a local carpenter to build one for you. I had a display case made when i was 13 or so...to hold my jose canseco's and larry johnsons, etc. back in the day. and of the three different display cases i have it's held up the nicest and is almost 15 years old too. realistically if you save the blueprints after it's made and like the final product, future ones would cost little more than material costs. when mine was made the most expensive material was the type of glass used...which is the downfall of my other pre fabricated ones...they used plexiglass and they use hinges too, as opposed to sliding glass doors... probably to keep costs down. I guess it all comes down to what you're trying to display...kind of like autographed memorabilia, do you use those cheap ballqube holders or the steiner ones, night and day for presentation value...but also night and day for price too. as for the cases, I don't even like having both display cases in the same room, because the pre-fabbed ones are almost eye sores compared to the special built one.

  • Hey thanks for the input. They sure look nice, but I'm not sure if it's the way to go if they fall out.
Does anybody have a website for the pennzoni's? How much are they?

  • Since these units do not appear to be UV protected, does anyone know if there is a product that can be applied for UV protection? If not, I would guess the next best thing to do would be to replace the glass with UV protected glass.

Definitely CK! A slice of UV automobile tint does the trick. Also added a larger padlock--gotta keep those expensive '75 and '76 psa 8's safe!image

I've had a 50 card Penzonni display for a little over a year now and it works great. The problem of "tipping" is easily solved by placing an addition nail near the bottom of the display. This allows the display to be angled slightly (bottom of the display is further from the wall than the top of the display). This way you don't have to worry about the cards falling forward when you open the glass case(which opens from the bottom, not the side.)

I have attached a pic i have of my display. Goes great in my "game" room...lol
