    My gut feeling is it isn't proof. Would be interesting to remove it and see.

    How would it get such a cameo effect without being proof?

    The cameo effect is very common on these halfcrowns, especially on the reverse. Aethelred has a really nice one that is MS.

    i'm not very familiar with them, and although I've seen coins with P/L surfaces, I can't remember seeing too many at all with cameo effect too.

    I must disagree- looks like a definite proof to me. Sure, I've seen some PL's, but not like that.

    I like it, too. If I bought that, then I would have to start building an 1893 proof set. I have the half-sovereign from Dimitri (NGC PF64, should have been CAM). Not sure I would wanna tackle the rest of the set, though! image
