Who other than PSA

I have a loaded question. I have several '70's-80's football cards I want to have graded for resale only. I know they're not PSA worthy. Who do you think would be a good lower quality grading company to use. It seems on Ebay whomever grades it if the number is big they sell. I was thinking about PGS. My personal experience is that they may be a fair grader. Basically I'm looking for a EASY grader, just to move some average cards. Thanks in advanced.

Sell them raw if they are not slab candidates.
  • This is an aweful question to ask a bunch of guys that like to fight deception in the hobby. I'm not saying you are trying to cheat anyone but it seems you want the card to look better than it probably is for re-sale value.

I agree with Dave. Sell them raw with a nice description (but truthful one).

  • I thought you bought the card not the holder. All I'm trying to do is sell a card that has a assigned grade. You know instead of purchasing a card, like I have, thinking it was EX and it's really VG... Besides, why do people buy cards from other companys and cross them. Usually the card crosses lower, what are the people who sell cards from someone other than PSA, SGC or BGS doing. Why don't they send it to a higher end grader... They're trying to get as much out of them as they can. Besides anyone who knows how this works would never buy a card from some other grader. This is part of collecting.. Plain and Simple!!

That's pretty much the point. A knowledgeable buyer will know that PRO, ASA or whoever are really a sham. The only reason to use those graders is to take advantage of new or uninformed collectors.

If a card is VG, it should be VG for any grader. A grader that grades that card EX, is not an "easy" grader, they are a dishonest grader.

  • OK Maybe I worded this wrong. I'm looking for a grader who charges a reasonable fee for a bunch of average cards. Not persay a "EASY" grader. But a grader who charges a "FAIR" amount..

Do you happen to be the John Vineyard who won a NHRA Super Gas world championship? Just curious.

You may not even get your grading fees back is the point. Maybe you can use SGC for the stars to save a few bucks, but unless you are dealing with $20+ cards when graded, it probably isn't worth the time and money to submit them.

Nope. But I get asked all the time. As far as I know we are very distantly related.

CS - The irony of your situation is...If you use PSA, who "usually" gets the best return on a cards value, it will cost you too much for the grading fee. But if you use a cheaper fee grading service, such as "xyz" grading company that say charges $2.00 per card, you won't get the final $'s that a PSA, SGC or GAi would bring in. So like the others before me have stated, if its not quality enough to have the big 3 grade them, it isn't worth your while & expense to have anybody else grade them either...jay

Dude, sell the cards as is. If you try to get them graded whether it is PSA or PRO, you will loose money.

Looking for high grade rookie cards and unopened boxes/cases
  • OK.. Would you have a rookie card, such as a Theisman, Fouts, etc graded if they would only grade a PSA 5? I think I'll just lump them together and sell them in a lot on Ebay. Thanks for all your help, I appreciate it..

I wouldn't. Yes on 7 and up for those cards.

Staubach and Bradshaw rookies I would get graded in a PSA 5 or above. Payton rookie I would get graded in a PSA 6 or above. For every other HOFer football rookie from the 1970s, I would say PSA 7 or above.

  • I'd buy lower end star cards - more so if they're graded by PSA than if they were raw. You'd be surprised how many 'low to mid' grade vintage collectors there are.
