SAGE cards

Any opinions or thoughts about these cards???
I just bought a pre-order of 4 Rashaun Woods (Oklahoma State). #/99.
Gotta watch him the past two years in Stillwater. Awesome receiver. Maybe a Top 10 pick in the draft.

Sage is actually a company who makes cards. They have choosen to deliver those cards in randomly
packed packs for many years but have now teamed up with beckett to pimp these cards as early
as possible. If you want my opinion these are a waste and will be worth nothing the minute something
better comes along and today that time isn't too far away as football releases now hit at draft time.

This is just another way for beckett and sage to make a little money. I would save your money.

  • I enjoy the SAGE cards because they show the guys in their college uni's. That appeals to me as a guy who just collects Gators. Same thing for Press Pass. I'm not concerned about their investment value, so that's not an issue for me. It is still all about collecting who/what you like, right?

That is true, but as js stated, most modern collectors view these cards as second rate issues (Sage / Press Pass). As long as you understand that, most definitely collect what makes you happy.

  • Second rate based on what criteria? If you're referring to investment value, then I agree with you. But I also think you should change your post to read "most modern investors view these cards as second rate issues ".

  • I wasn't concerned about the investment part. I paid about $10 ea.
Just thought they were good looking cards that were numbered out of 99.
Heck i was happy just to pick up a few Rookie Reviews.
I don't collect modern football. But i'd like to put together a nice PSA collection of Woods cards after he is drafted. What are the key sets for RC's nowadays as far as football..?
    Thanks

Point taken, but the criteria used is that Sage/PP is not one of the four major established card producers in the hobby. Even garden variety collectors don't hold these products in the same regard because of this. I do agree that you should collect what you like though, and if you like these cards, then go for it.

It's not really my area of expertise, but I understand PP is the leader in Nascar cards (!)...

I would say SP Authentic and Playoff Contenders are the most sought after brands for modern football RC's, with Bowman Chrome and Topps Chrome a close second.
