Franklin Half MS 65?

Just scanning through the Ebay Stuff, checking out different Frankies I ran across this coin. I'm very new to collecting and have NON-existant skills as a grader , but in my eyes no way will this thing go MS 65. It has Luster and I don't see any wear on the high spots ( The cheek ,Hair behind ear and the shoulder)this is the upside. But the marks on this thing are very bad. Especially in the feilds where it is very important on Frankies. If I were to grade this baby it would be a 60 at best. Can't go any higher due to the amount of marks on it. I wish I could see the Reverse.

Any oppinions?

I think you can grade better than you think. Don't sell yourself short.

I'd say MS62, max, in a legit holder. That Franky has been abused.

  • Purple, I'm a newbie too, but wouldn't touch that with a stick.

As I was cruising through eBay tonight I also happened upon this...

    Just_Shoot_Me_And_Steel_My_Money

Now, I may be a newbie but I'm not a complete idiot. I sent the seller a note (on this and a couple other auctions) requiring better resolution images denoting the so-called FBL, or will require a return policy pending physical inspection (I'm not shy).

On other auctions claims that the collector he aquired them from was very meticulous. I submit, if an avid collector is that meticulous, why send your collection to CCGS??? Why not PCGS, NGC, or even ANACS?

Maybe I am an idiot after all. image

  • I'm so P.O.'d at PCGS and Franklins anymore that I think they must grade with a dart board.

I give up on them, I've had it. It wouldn't surprise me if PCGS gave that coin in the picture a 67.

I recently submitted a 1950 proof cameo, had it looked over by several Frankie "experts". I thought 64 cam at worst and really figured 65.

No one who looked at it said anything below 65, some said 66. I was also warned that I could get screwed over as PCGS sometime doesn't know their butt from a hole in the ground when it comes to Frankies.

Well, I paid extra to get it back earlier, no economy this time. Yeah, I got it back............ image

63 CAM................63!!!!! Just in case you might wonder why I'm so furious, check out the pricing between a 63 and a 65. I'm so distraught over this one that right now I'm considering selling every PCGS slab I own and just sticking to bullion from now on.

I'm sure if my name was a little better known it wouldn't have been a mere 63..................it's an F'n joke and I'm not laughing. If they want to drive people away from collecting and hunting and looking and finally finding a true gem, well they've made a great start in my case.

I'm so P.O.'d by this that I'm seriously thinking of just quitting collecting anything anymore. I'll stick to toned Morgans and bullion and if this feeling doesn't go away soon, I'll just get out of this hobby/scam/racket altogether.

It's already been a week and I'm still not even slightly less angry. image

Sorry to hijack this thread to vent, but I just can't accept the rip-off I was just given. If a perfection Cameo on a perfect 50 Frankie rates a 63 then there can't be a single 65 in the world. But I know there are, I've seen them, they don't hold a candle to this one.

If I still feel this way in another 10 days, I'll be selling alot of stuff cheap and just cut my loses. I'm so furious I don't even want to think about coins anymore.

I just got a nice batch of 1000 mercury's recently and I don't even even have the heart to look at them. I just threw the bag in the closet and it can stay there as far as I'm concerned!!!!!!!!!!!

What the Hell is a Presidential review, how much more will it cost me and is there even any point to it since I'm just a regular guy and not a big name dealer?

    Hey Deadhorse,
Consider yourself lucky! If I would have submitted it I would have gotten an AU58CAM!!!image
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

  • I consider myself raped, robbed and insulted, pretty much in that order. I waited a week to say anything just to let my anger cool, it hasn't cooled.

Maybe some before and after pictures would be nice, even though I don't have a camera that will do it justice.

Before as the 63 CAM and after I take a sledge hammer to it!!! I'll be dammed If I'll accept this scam. Maybe they think I'll just resubmit it, since they know it's far better than a 63.

That would only increase my anger. That's little more than blackmail.

I've submitted over a 100 coins before and some grades were a bit less, some a bit better than I expected. This is an absolute travesty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm going to try to get a little sleep, have lots of errands to do today as it's a day offf for me. But I swear, this is the sort of thing that drives collectors away and I'm far from a beginner.

I started this as a kid in the 60s and this is the worst, the absolute WORST thing I've ever had happen to me and that includes getting ripped off on eBay. They were at least scammers who just stole my money and ran away.

I suppose I could be banned for saying the above, but it would just prove my point. If so, I'll miss the folks around here, you guys are like a real family. I'm still so pizzed I could bite 16d nails in half right now.

  • Just crack it out and send it in again. With enough fees the coin will finally receive its accurate grade.

  • Heheheh, well, Lets see here image . I'll start by saying "that really sucks about your coin dude, sorry that happened" I'll also say " This is the first time I've been Hijacked image Thank god it was on the net in a forum imageimage "

Tell ya what.......I'll be a real nice guy.....you send me the coin and then I'll send it in myself to have it graded IF it comes back 65 can I have it? Hahhahah Just messin dudeimage!
  • 62 maybe...and that is pushing the 'bagmark' concept.

  • Of course its not an MS65, if it were, the seller would proclaim its a MS67.

    MS61 at best.
