Why so many NGC coins on Teletrade?

Coincidence or is there a reason?

Likely it's turnaround time. Teletrade has a program where they'll submit raw coins for the consignor, and I'd guess that a lot of sellers are selecting NGC right now so they can move the product more quickly.

I would say turnaround time as well.

I think Russ has it right. The sellers are selling for a reason. They need cash and they need it soon.

NGC grades about 80,000 coins a month on average. That should give you some perspective as to market share. PCGS grades about 70,000 and ANACS grades about 45,000.

PCGS is now grading over 100,000 per month and has been for a while.

That would explain the turnaround times.

  • electriceye.........which series do you believe NGC is more lenient with??
  • Its definately turn around times.

NGC is not soft on Morgans. Go to dealers and try to by NGC graded coins at a big discount to PCGS coins.

A better test would be to try and sell them NGC graded coins. Funny thing about dealers. When they're selling, the grading services are all the same.

I am not saying NGC graded Morgans are valued less in today's market, I am saying NGC's grading of Morgans is not as stringent as PCGS's...there's a big difference image

NGC market share has been increasing for at least the last year. i made mention of that simple fact recently, all you need to do is attend larger shows and look around. i don't think that's as much a case of PCGS slowing down but rather an increase at NGC, perhaps tied to their move to Florida. the turnaround problems at PCGS don't mean they aren't grading as many coins as in the past, it probably means just the opposite, they are grading more and the slowdown we see is a reflection of that volume.

If that was the reason that TT is loaded with NGC coins, the same would be true with most other auction companies. They're not. So, any other theories?

    Andy,

You're comparing apples to oranges. Most other auction companies, ie; Heritage, ANR, Superior, etc., are selling existing collections of higher-end material that has not been recently graded. Current turnaround times aren't relevant to their product mix.

eBay has more PCGS than NGC, but that's only because it's predominantly moderns listed by a handful of high volume dealers.

One example, if you were looking to buy a 90's PF70 DCAM Washington would you rather pay $425 for it or $75.00? I don't see four hundred dollars worth of value in that coin but a few on the registry do. There will always be more players at the lower price therefore they can sell more coins in NGC holders. Teletrade isn't exactly known as the marketplace for high value coins.

Russ - What makes you think that that's not true of Teletrade?
