Yes, the 1990's Yankees had GREAT team chemistry and it is a good thing to have in the clubhouse BUT does anybody remember the Bronx Zoo in the late 1970's and a certain player who stirred someone's drink?

Morning - back from church - was that a rhetorical question? It's spring training 1978,if I remember correctly - a great year for the Yanks - one my best in memory - Reggie states he will be the straw that stirs the Yankee's drink and that Thurmon, who to me was the real captain of the team and a favorite of mine, could only stir it badly or words to that effect. Everyone was feuding with everyone back then - Georgie boy was bad news with all the behind the scenes $ dealing he was doing - Lyle won the Cy Young and in terms of salary was getting dissed big time!
Thanks for the memory
Mike
Thanx,

by the way, I followed the Yanks bigtime while I was in school in NYC - became a Braves fan while stationed in Ga. and stayed with it because you can follow them anywhere you live (in army) because of the superstation.
I have "The Bronx Zoo." Controversy first happened when Reggie was interviewd by (I think it was) Sports Illustrated. The incident was subequently mentioned in "The Bronx Zoo." I remember it well as I was in college then.
Was that the article where he said he would be a bigtime celeb in NY and he would bring them WS rings again....they would name a candy bar after him....and so on? Sure musta pissed off a lot of people!

YES, and the famous line was To make matters worse, those same teammates declared war on Jackson after a magazine article quoted him as saying, "I'm the straw that stirs the drink. . . . Munson thinks he can be the straw that stirs the drink, but he can only stir it bad."

Thanx for the reference - by the way when I said close - I didn't mean that I was right and you were wrong - I just meant that I only remembered this from the book - reading articles, I can hardly remember them - but a book sticks with me better.
