I bet Nomar and Manny Ramirez will be REAL happy campers this year making for a tranquil Bosox club house and GREAT team chemistry. After all, just count the ways the Sox went out of their way to get rid of Ramirez and even the most loyal Boston nation citizen Nomar was toyed with throughout the off-season. IMHO Theo Epstein deserves a promotion.

wow, you sure are posting alot?? day off??

  • <<wow, you sure are posting alot?? day off??>>

    Yes, 4 day long weekend.

Go Yanks! I am so EXCITED.
  • Yeah, he's posting a lot. Typical ignorant Yankee dribble that he knows nothing about. First of all, these guys are adults, unlike some people on this board, and they know baseballs a business and know things happen and they may get traded. Second of all, Ramirez had no problem with the trade, and even made comments about it. Also Nomar had a few chances to sign for I believe 15mil a year and turned it down, and that was up to him. Learn some facts, or if you want to post crap, post it in another forum. Lastly, it's not even 100% you have Rodriguez yet, and even if they get him, will they be that much better? Losing Soriano will hurt, not to mention everyone else they've lost. Thanks for coming out.

How about that Yankee team chemistry? That could be the biggest bunch of misfits since the Bronx Zoo days. Sheffield? Lofton? Kevin Brown? Good luck with that.

  • I so agree with Boston 1918, another Yankees fan happy that his team is trying to BUY another championship! Whatever happened to fair competition or building a team with draft picks? I'm not a Red Sox fan or a Yankees fan, and honestly I'd still much rather have the Boston team this year. Rodriguez plays hard and hits alot of homers, but will he be happy playing 3rd? Can the Yankees overcome Boston's superior pitching? And why trash Soriano after he's gone? I mean this guy is a great player.
Unbelievable, I said I wouldn't watch baseball again after the Boone homer in game 7, now I doubt I'll even watch a highlight--what a joke!!!
  • See post. I covered that almost one hour ago.

  • << <i>Another bitter Boston fan. >>

My Lord the maturity is lacking around here. You antagonize Boston fans and then call them names when the respond.

Hey boston1918...maybe you should change your user id? You're wearing our embarrassment like a badge of honor. What's the point?
There is a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness"
  • 80sToyguy, if the trade goes through, I will be very sorry to see Soriano go. I am a big Soriano fan and have two Rookie cards of him, PSA Gem Mint 10's I might add.

alex rodriguez will tear up yankee stadium! line drive power hitter and um 310' down the leftfield line? this guy will hit 70 homers in about 4 months! if this does go through the yankees are getting the best player in baseball and if he can play short he can play third.

  • Red Sox and Met fans: Bottom line your managements blew it. Criticize Steinbrenner all you want but he invests in the team which 90% of the time has bought financial rewards for himself and joy for Yankee fans. Baseball is a business.

Since I'm new, I know somewhere-sometime, you guys probably battled this ?: what about the salary cap in baseball or is it really relevant? After all, the Orioles also spent a fortune without the ROI that the Yanks seemed to have garnered. What do you think?

  • Stone193,

If an owner goes over the limit he has to pay a penalty to the other teams. True, spending a fortune does not always work....just ask Baltimore and Mets fans.

easy on us mets fans! we hopefully learned our lesson 2 times now! f@cking bobby bonilla!
  • You just don't get it ...do you...Gemmy....I already know you don't because :

    1. 3/4 or more of your 850 + posts have the word "Yankee" in it...as in you have usally very little of material interest to lend regarding this HOBBY; you post with reckless abandon on MEMORABILIA forums, when your opinions are better suited to Sports Talk or the Open Forum.

    2. As a major contributor on the BGS Boards, but watcher of this board until this year, I remember seeing all your inane Worlds Series posts at the rate of 5-6 an hour....a case of quantity over quality for sure.

    3. As a baseball fan you should be sickened by this "trade"; it represents everything that is wrong in baseball and if this isn't trying to buy a championship, what is ? How many position players are minor league developed players now, Gemmy ? Three...? Yankee payroll....200 million ? But if you're from New York, it says it all already...."your NYC everything revolves around NYC" bias overcomes your sense of reason.

Be a fan...fine....you're as over the top as the price of a cup of coffee in Manhattan.

  • if the bosox landed arod they would regard him as the saviour before he even saw one pitch.

the truth is that theo dropped the ball, they needed to get rid of ramirez and get arod they didn't.

now, an already disgruntled ramirez and alienated nomar are the vital cogs in the bosox offense.

the bosox have a strong front four starters and a solid pen but that MAY NOT translate into a pennant, but will make them tough in short series.

i am a long time yankee fan and always looked foward to the boston series. the rivalry always seemed to bring up the level of play between the two teams. nowadays, i enjoy seeing the dejected scowls of pedro and manny after a big loss. guys like that represent alot of what's wrong with the game.

chemistry is a concern for both teams. i feel the yanks have an advantage because they have at least four marquee players that can pick the other guys up when one is going badly. if ramirez goes through a tough spell he may not want to even play, leaving the load on nomar , varitek, nixon. i'm curious to see if the sox can "cowboy up" for two years in a row.

i will miss soriano, his wrists were so quick and he was an electric player. i enjoyed watching him at the plate when he was going well. i truly hope he learns the all important plate discipline and can pick up his defensive game. playing in texas under showalter will probably be good for him and help refine his game.

this season will be an interesting one for yanks and soxs fans alike, both teams still have question marks but it's probably safe to say both teams will playing the post season and even safer to say no one will be complaining when these teams go head to head for the AL crown.

~"nowadays, i enjoy seeing the dejected scowls of pedro and manny after a big loss. guys like that represent alot of what's wrong with the game"~
How exactly does Pedro represent what is wrong with the game?
  • I agree with "Aro"...just how is Pedro "whats wrong with the game"???

More like Steinbrenner is EVERYTHING that is wrong with this game !!
  • I am really sick of this criticism of the yankees "buying" their championships.
your criticisms should be pointed at MLB, not the yanks.
until a salary cap is created and enforced... there are no rules against using your wealth to build your team.
The object is to win... not "win against the odds."
    anyways...
the last two teams to actually win the world series had relatively small payrolls.
the richest team in the country that sells everything except dogfood with their logo on it does have an obligation to their many fans to "buy" the best team they can.
it's overboard, I know... but it's the american way...

second, it doesn't matter how much money you spend if you spend it foolishly. The yankees just put together a roster that looks like an all star team... yet, chemistry and recent history are not on their side to "automatically" win a world series or the alcs.

Boston fans should be relatively happy with their team and poised for the greatest celebration of all time when and if they dethrone the yanks this year.
The boston team has chemistry, talent and character. plus some amazing pitching...
Boston fans should be psyched that steinbrenner gave them more to hate about the yanks. he just made the prospect of a yankees upset sweeter to a potential successor.

lastly... I am a yankees fan... and these recent blockbuster acquistions make me nervous. It's a hard team to to like. and a difficult team to root for.
Stienbrenner took in a lot of salaries... and put together what appears to be an awesome team on paper... however, wait until the end of the season before you start talking about anyone buying a championship.

I think steinbrenner just sealed the deal and put a larger, more visable bullseye on the yankees franchise.
and I feel that it will make for a more exciting season for all teams.

My gut tells me that this might be the year that the red sox get us...
and it will be more awful considering all of the money we spent and getting a-rod when they didn't.
  • To GEMMY...

NOT image...as you have no answers to my statement.

I see you more as image

That is how I see Gemmy and his 200 Yankee posts per minute.

Take it to the Sports Talk or Open Forum.
  • oops wrong thread
  • To "YD" :

You are a veteran with lots to contribute on these boards from a collecting point of view; you have always been a good poster regarding cards.

I can't fault you on your fanship, as I too like the Yankees, but I am a fan of Baseball above all else and I don't think what Steinbrenner does is good for the game. If you have have nots and one glutton you get revolution, its inescapable.

I also don't believe stuffing a ballot box is necessarily the "American Way" we want to portray with America's sport.

We teach our children about the importance of sportmanship and that winning is a by-product of hard work; winning is everything is not what I raise my children to believe.

Our history is full of stories about the cost of winning at all costs. I don't like the example Steinbrenner sets or the lessons to be learned from his conduct....I especially don't like his "effect" on the game I love.
  • Beachbum,

Are you going root for another team this year?
  • Beachbum...
    I know man...
I am typically a fan of the underdog...
I must say it would be more satisfying to me if the yanks won without guys like brown, giambi sheff lofton and a-rod...

clemens and giambi were hard enough to stomach...

When I referred to the "American Way" I was being sarcastic... because overdoing it and stuffing the ballot box does seem to be how our children might perceive the american way... Thanks to contemporary media and marketing.

when brittany spears, areosmith, sting, the dixie chicks and justin timberlake show up at a "tickertape" party and sing "we are the champions"
then.... I will renounce the yanks and start rooting for baltimore or detroit.
  • I am a fan of my team, not the owner who doesn't care about any of us except for the money he can make from us!

I think it's time for baseball to stiffen up its revenue sharing policy. Even the new collective bargaining agreement isn't having much effect with only a few teams being over the threshold and little money transferred. With football, all fans can look forward to the new season with hope. In baseball, about half the teams have no chance of winning without a miracle. The team I root for, Pittsburgh, used to be a great franchise. Now it's a joke. Some blame goes to the ownership for some poor personnel decisions, but a team like the Yankees have the ability to recover from poor decisions immediately while the teams like the Pirates continue to feel the effects of those mistakes for years.

I don't have any particular interest in the upcoming season other than watching individual players achieve milestones.
  • baseball needs a salary cap, plain and simple
  • I agree about the cap.

That's not sayinng if Steinbrenner plays wthin the rules that he can't spend money to make the Yankees better.
  • Hey I don' really care for the Yankees either, but they still have a few homegrown players. FYI - The 'lovable' Cubbies did not have a single player in the starting eight that come up through their system in the playoffs last year.

prior and wood are homegrown players for the cubs! maybe you meant hitters though bc of starting 8?
  • pedro was instrumental in the media boycott .

he shut out the fans who want to hear what he has to say after hurling 7 shutout innings for the win.

he snubbed the media who make a living covering the team.

the irony is the fan and media dollar pay his salary.

steinbrenner can be a nuisance and a distraction but he puts the money the fans and media lay out back into the team. he will always try to put the best team on the field. baseball is a business and people will always be interested in the best product out there. at the risk of proliferating this thread. the yanks didn't sign petitte because the are looking ahead to sign beckett. you heard it here first. money helps alot but solid decisions win rings.
