Just got a 1975 Topps Will McEnaney PSA 8 for $10

Hey,
I was cruising someone's eBay store and saw a 1975 Topps Will McEnaney PSA 8 with a BIN of $10. I remember 1975 collectors talking about how rare it was when it was a POP 3. Now it is a POP 16 so it may not be as rare, but I am sure I can make a nice profit on it anyways. I noticed one of the top sets where it is the only 7 and I am sure he could use an upgrade.
Thoughts? Offers?
I just told my girlfriend that I just got a good deal on a low-pop psa 8 common. She did not seem very interested. image

Dave contact me.I sold a 75 to a relative of Will about a month ago.
  • Dave,

Try telling your girlfriend you just got a great eBay deal on a Louis Vuitton handbag, and watch her jump to attention!

They just don't get the "card" thing do they?
  • still not an easy card. alot of print defects are associated with it. nice pick up for 10 bucks.

16 is still one of the lower pops for 8s, and it's been a while since one has come along on ebay. I never thought to look for them in stores, I guess I didn't realize they didn't come up in regular searches. Prices on the tougher cards have been trending down recently as the big-money players are almost done with their sets. Last one I recall went for about $50 a few months ago, but I don't think it'll go that high if you auction it. Probably $25-30, still not a bad return if you flip it.

I would have purchased it, invested billions in a time machine and gone back to 2002 and made a hefty 50 bucks on it. But that's just me.

But so will the number of collectors looking for them. That's what makes it an ongoing challenge. As we watch the low pops become high pops, mid pops will become low pops, and the cycle begins anew. Don't forget -- As any card gets locked into a set, that reduces the number of available cards. Sure, more will get graded, but all that means is that others will take their place as low pops. Instead of 20 set builders looking for 5 available, it will be 40 collectors looking for 10 available. A very intriguing study of supply and demand.

My feeling is that the number of cards being submitted (thanks to the specials), already sitting in dealers inventories and recycled cards hitting the market from collectors who have bailed out of the set....is much greater then there are new people actively pursuing a 600+ card mainstream 70s Topps set.

I hate to say it...but the overall prices for these cards have been trending downwards.
  • Hello Dave,

Yes, I'd be interested in upgrading my set with this card.

Tried to send you an e-mail but it keeps bouncing back.

The number of people seriously collecting the 75 set seems to be on the upswing at the moment based on new ebay ID's I see, but that is countered by the number of people who are finishing it or who are bailing out of it. Besides, growing collector base doesn't always translate into seriously higher prices. If you look at the current finest list, there's a 2.00 point gap between #10 and #11, and that gap's been there for weeks. The people from #11 on down seem to be people who won't pay $35 for a low pop of a common player in 8 in order to accumulate it as fast as possible, and have the patience to wait out the people who will. Nine of the top ten sets all have at least 50 9s, meaning they each have at least an extra $1000 or more invested in their sets than people collecting straight 8s do (excepting those who got them through their own submissions). If low-budget people perceive enough supply in the pop report and use patience, there's little chance of the $100 common returning. If the most anyone will pay for a common 8 is $10, then the person who bids $10.50 is king, but even that person might not go to $11.

BTW, anyone notice the JeffreyBeffrey 1975 set? It's interesting in that it first appeared in the top 20 a few weeks ago with a GPA under 7, many cards graded 5 and 6, but over 50% complete. So far he's made two big additions/upgrades to his set of almost all 9s and raised his GPA almost three-quarters of a point. I wonder what is going on there.

  • Well I finally got around to putting the card up on eBay.

    LINK

I noticed that one sold recently for about only $20.
This one might not have been worth my time...
