Ever see such an expensive set in a really cheap folder?

Is it just me or does the second numeral in the 1877 look like a '9'?

instant red flag on that coin! I'd bet the 90 in 1907 were tooled pretty much Off! Leaving the strong 7.

email and ask for a close up of both sides of that one.

It looks like a type 1 so it cannot be a 1907. (but I am not positive)

Definitely not a 77, the digit size, shape and placement is totaly incorrect. Looks like an 1887 or 1897 to me.

Someone once sold Jim O'Donnell a whole set of seated quarters in a Dansco shelf album. Jim wrote the prices underneath each coin on the album page and that's how they were sold. It was a 100K or so set, if I recall correctly.

Yes, unfortunately I've seen very expensive sets in very inexpensive coin folders -- especially Type Sets including Mint State 19th Century Coins.

Back in the 1970's alot of mint state type coins got fingerprinted and slide marked by the acetate clear plastic slides in those very popular Blue Whitman Type Set Holders... image

  • I saw this when it was first listed and all I saw was RED FLAGS!! Though I'm not a gambling man, I'll wager the 1877 is NOT authentic. Gee, I can see the second seven and can sort of make out the first seven...if I really squint...

Buyer beware! ($687 bid as I type this)

    (EDIT: Dosen't that 1909-s look like 1888?)
