Anyone familiar with this Kennedy variety?

I'm not too familiar with this variety. To me it almost looks like MD on the D. Is this a RPM D/D ?

There also appears to be some unusual doubling on the 1 in the date.

Likely an abraded die coin with MDD. The shelf completely surrounds the D, and is not limited to one side, so I doubt it's RPM. I have a full roll of 68-D that's identical. I'll put up a pic later if I get a chance. Looks like a tiny D sitting atop a larger D (dead center).

Thanks DHeath. All the doubling appears on the south and east side of the D with no apparent doubling on the north and west.

Here's one of my 68's. Notice the ledge extends all the way around the letter. The ANACS boys tell me this is die wear, and not RPM. On this 68, there is a depression (cavity) surrounding the MM, and the D is partially filled. I've seen this kind of effect on lettering of some of the Jeff's, where both sides of the letter appear to have MDD. Perhaps yours is different, but I thought you'd enjoy the look.

Thanks for the response Don. It does appear that the D is sitting up on a shelf. It looks a little different than yours but similar nonetheless. Thanks for the time to post the pic.
