eBay schmeeBay!!

So am I the only buyer over there that seems to have the knack for finding sellers that don't have a clue?? And I mean a clue all the way around??? The items were two Proof Franklin Half-Dollars, a 1956 and a 1957, with the auction listing stating that the 1956 was Cameo. Well, they seemed unable to notice that it was also a Type 1, so good for me that I won the auction. It ended on January 30th and I paid when I returned home from work at around 7:00 A.M. January 31st. PayPal listed it completed on February 4th and after eight days I e-mailed to receive a reply that the item had been shipped on February 11th.

This has happened before, and to the sellers credit they state in the listing that "Winning auctions shipped every 7 days." Funny how I got completed at day one of the new cycle!!! Checking the listing I notice that the picture has been deleted and in light of the shoddy service to date, I'm now worried that the old bait-and-switch is on the horizon and I'll receive a Type 2 coin.

Lesson #1 learned----start downloading pictures of auctions I win which include raw coins and write down insert numbers of holdered coins.

Lesson #2 being studied----avoid leaving feedback to guard against retaliation.

Lesson #3 Always ask if the coin pictured is the one you will receive.
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

  • I don't believe in not leaving negative feedback to someone that deserves it. If you get one back I feel it is worthwhile. People need to know who the bad guys are. Gte yourself one I.D. for buying and another for selling. This way if your buying ID gets some negs it won't hurt if you are selling.

I left a negative today... my third in several years of heavy e-bay use. Buyer bought 3 items from me. No contact even after repeated reminders. Bidding history shows lots of buying (many items per day) up through a couple days after my auctions. Feedbacks received indicate somewhere on the day of my auctions, he/she quit paying for anything. Saw another forum member sold to this person, and they have also not been paid.

We'll see if the other sellers pile on now, and if I get a retaliatory negative.

I wouldn't be too worried about that. I've purchased from this seller several times and have always received the coins she had imaged in the auction. Of course, as with all auctions I win, I still save the images just in case.

As for her being clueless; works fine for me. Part of that cluelessness is that she doesn't know how to identify an Accented Hair.

I just checked the site where she hosts her images. It's down, which is why the images aren't showing right now.

Refinement on Lesson #2: how to leave feedback without retaliation, unless the other person is really fast- leave it on the 90th day (or 89th, whatever it is- just before it goes out of eBay's database). image

If it's any comfort to anyone I always note in my auctions that the coin pictured is the one the seller will get. I've been burned too many times by "stock photos". Please, I understand that if a seller has a million coins of the same type to put up I understand the use of stock images. Too many times have I bought what I saw in the image only to be sent something else. I really hope you get the coin pictured. I guess it's just another of my learning experiences just like buying unseen coins....man I learned the hard way on that oneimage

I hear you. I always save the photo on my desktop until the coin arrives.

Once I bought a high grade circulated Barber quarter, saved the scan and when my barely VG (worth $2.00) quarter arrived I did a nice cut and paste and e-mailed the owner complaining I recieved a junk silver coin. He swore they were one and the same. So I sent him the cut and paste scan and said', "really? You really think so?"

that shut his piehole really fast. He refunded my money but swore they were the same coins even with a huge scan staring him down. What a turd. LOL
