Gretzky BGS 9.5 Rookie...Only $100,000!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2787704004&category=23848

1. There is a PSA 10, so this isn't the only perfect Gretzky rookie.

1a. There are, I'm sure, several gem mint Gretzky rookies that don't, and never will, reside in graded card company holders of any kind.

2. If you were trying to sell a card for $100,000, wouldn't you provide multiple, and large scans???

3. $100,000???????????????????????????????

4. Any taking bets that the card is cut from a sheet?
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

I don't think this guy is serious about selling his card. I would imagine if someone offered $15k to stop auction early for private sale, he would be more than happy to oblige.

Link The story behind this puppy is that it's actually a BVG card in a BGS holder. Supposedly it was pulled from a pack purchased from Dave and Adams back at the 2002 National convention.
    Who is Rober Maris?
  • This card was sold on Ebay about a year ago for $17601.00 - the serial # was #50604 - but the seller does not have a scan of the back - but I assume it's the same card. In his description he acts like this is the first time it's been on auction and that there is no PSA 10 in existance. I've emailed him to send me the cards serial # - so I'm kinda interested to see if he replys.

Well, just like how you mentioned above, why not provide scans on a $100,000 card? Obviously the seller is trying to hide the card's detail.

Tragically Hip....Thanks for bringing it up....there is a thread somewhere in here where we discussed the original grading. Let us know what he says.

  • My guess is that at the close of the auction, the bids will remain at "0". $100K? Absolutely insane!

Something else I noticed. . .this guy has a feedback rating of under 200. From the auctions we have access to, he's done a couple deals in the $2000 to $3000 range, but that's a far cry from 100 big ones.

This guy is probably honest, but there are a few things that would give me pause if I were inclined to part with $100k+. If this guy were serious about selling it, wouldn't he almost certainly do better letting one of the major auction houses handle it for him? If he's intent on eBay, wouldn't he do better consigning it to one of the larger hockey dealers?

So full of action, my name should be a verb.
  • The seller replied to my email - as we thought - it is the same card from last year. You buy it for $17,000 and now you want $100,000 - I don't think so!!!!
