Are there certain coins that you hate seeing dipped/cleaned?

I want to hear some rants! Personally, I can't stand seeing circulated bust half dollars that are bright white- they have this unnatural silver sheen to them and look completely stupid! I see so many bust halves that have amazing detail and drastically cleaned surfaces, and I can only wonder what they must have looked like before Mr. Brighter is Better showed up and ruined it. Additionally, the ones that were cleaned several years ago often start getting this Godawful splotchy, uneven toning that further hampers the eye appeal. Everyone- PLEASE LEAVE THE BUST HALVES ALONE!! image So, are there series that anybody else has an issue with regarding cleanings?
My style is impetuous, my defense is impregnable !

Cleaning copper is a very risky undertaking.

  • Dipping has ruined most Southern gold, i.e. Charlotte and Dahlonega. I blame NGC because they rewarded dealers for cracking original coins in PCGS holders and then dipping them. I had a lovely PCGS AU58 that I sold to a dealer and he dipped it and NGC put it in an MS61 holder. I think it's a real shame, we're supposed to be preserving this history not destoying it.
I'd rather be lucky than good.
