Another 100% 1974 Topps Baseball Set!

Just added the final two cards I needed and am now at 100% for my 1974 set. It ranks #3 current finest (by a hair) and #4 all-time with a 8.59 GPA. There are about 20 cards I still plan to upgrade, so it will probably finish out around 8.65 or so. Not quite a threat to Wayne or Wetzel, but not too shabby either.

I want to thank board members Scott Wetzel and Todd Shaffer for their help with this set. Scott got me launched with a large purchase last fall, and Todd enabled me to get within spitting distance of the end. I also want to thank Brian Simons for a steady stream of PSA 9's over the last several months! Brian also got me the final two cards - both versions of Rich Morales. Thanks guys!

Steve

    Steve - Congratulations, nice set!
  • Sweet. My personal favorite is the 73 set from the 70s. Lemme know if you need any help. I've got another 30 coming back from PSA soon (I hope!)

Great job Steve. I'm glad to see you were able to locate those last few cards. So will you focus on finishing that '73 set now?
  • Steve,

Congratulations on a great accomplishment. The 74 set was the first set that I completed as a kid so it has a soft spot for me. It took me all summer. Then for Christmas I got the factory set from my parents. They said they got it at Sears of all places.

  • Great set Steve - now if only they'd make a '74 master set that included the traded set. I agree it should be a part of a master set. Great job on both. I hit 50% on the traded set today. It would be a lot higher (both % and GPA), but I can't seem to hold on to any of them for long when I get them! image

    Great job Steve! Congratulations!
  • Thanks everyone!

Gemint - BTW, thanks too for your help! To answer your question, I'm now going to focus on my 1973 and 1959 sets, and am always interested in bulk deals for 9's in 1973 and 8's in 1959. Both sets are open to view. I have another late 1950's set substantially completed but will wait to list it until after the Fort show to have it reflect any acquisitions made there.

    Nice going!
  • great job on a nice set, i think the 74's are underated, some cards are just plain TOUGH to find in a PSA 9, poor card stock and the dreaded PD. i just sent about 100 to newport beach the results will determine if i put a serious effort into this beatiful set. good luck on your next project!
