What's up with the Newport Beach Post Office...

My latest submission (to correct errors on the flips) has been stuck at the PO for a week now. When I track it I get:

<< <i>Your item was processed and left our NEWPORT BEACH, CA facility on February 06, 2004. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later. >>

I'm having similar problems. I think PSA is slow to put the orders into the system to meet turnaround times, or give the allusion of faster than actually turnarounds. But that's just my conspiracy theory.

Currently collecting.....your guess is as good as mine.
  • I don't think PSA has received it yet, so I don't think that's the problem. I think it's still sitting at the PO somewhere...

We now know Davilillo's new ID. Glad to have you back Jim.

  • I just saw that one a few minutes ago. It's ridiculous that the package can get from MD to CA in 2 days, but takes over a week to get across town in Newport Beach!!!!!!

  • It seems PSA has been bombed with submissions. I spoke with a customer service rep this morning and they have received 100's of submissions a few different days this week, slowing the login process.

I had dropped off a few submission in person at the Hollywood Park show last Saturday and they were just logged in this morning.

looks like those quick turnarounds might be a thing of the past for now.

While this may be true, PSA can't log in my submission if they haven't gotten it yet...

  • I sent a submission in from NC on the 9th and checked the PSA site on Wed with the order number and zip. They received the package on the 11th. When I checked the “track and confirm” it was still in enroute on Wed., today it shows delivered. PSA sent the confirmation email out at 3:00 on Wed the 11th. All that to say some orders are getting processed in a timely manner.
    Thanks,
    Michael
  • PSA got my submission today. I guess I should have complained about the Post Office sooner... image

  • I've talked to the post office about this a couple of times in the last few mns. Registered mail is supposed to be signed for every step of the way. You would think you could track that on your computer, e.g. package arrived in Detroit last nt. The p.o. doesn't update these signings. For the heck of it, I punched in a reg. # the day after I rec'd the package from PSA, and was still advised that the package "had been left at our Newport Beach Office." Not bad!

I'm figuring my submission to them will take extra special long, given that there will be a huge number of Schmidt cards that have never been graded before. I think submissions like mine turn regular graders into the Grader of Death. An administrative nightmare, I'm sure.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

For those who haven't bothered to follow dbj77's advice and check out the other thread, here's the short story.

    * Sent my item on 2/7 and as of 2/9 I saw the same "still being processed" message when looking at my package.
    * Message on USPS web site unchanged when checked on 2/13.
    * I called the 1-800 number on the usps.com site and raised hell and only got madder when noone could give me a straight answer.
    * After getting upset enough, those people referred me to my local USPS consumer affairs dept.
    * Consumer affairs lady put me in touch with someone from the Newport Beach post office.
    * Guy at Newport Beach PO was VERY knowledgable and understanding about the problem.
    * Per guy in Newport Beach PO, they had a new employee. When items came in which required two scans - i.e. one for insurance and one for delivery confirmation - this newbie was only performing the insurance scan (and not doing DLV Confirm scan). This is why the web site wasn't updated with the information - no delivery confirmation scan, no web site update.
    * Guy in Newport Beach assured me corrective action has been taken to bring the newbie up to speed. And as cynical as I am (esp about the USPS), I believe him.
    * All things being equal, my next submission will be sent to PSA via FedEx.

When all was said and done, PSA did indeed pick up my package on 2/9 - and the order was entered into the system on 2/13. When I talked to the PSA customer service rep, she said they were very backlogged and it was taking 4-5 days between receiving a shipment and getting them entered.

I only wish PSA's turnaround guarantees were from the day they signed for the package - not when they were able to get the order entered.

So full of action, my name should be a verb.
  • The USPS is a goverment owned operation and as such will never be as good at tracking as Fed Ex or UPS. It is just not a top priorioty with them. I work for a Air Freight Forwarder and business is always tough to keep and price competively. Sometimes it can be very tough to keep a customer satisfied with all the competition, even though we are staffed 24 hours, 365 days a year.

The USPS has their nitche in the market and for what they do on a day to day basis they don't really have any competition.
